I hope someone will define R. It is possible to infer that R is a ring. It is not possible to infer exactly what properties it must have. I suppose it must be commutative? Must it be unital? Etc. Zaslav (talk) 05:54, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The ring is unital for sure. I do not think it necessarily has to be commutative. But some sort of extra check confirmation would be appreciated. I am referring to Rotman's An Introduction Homologial Algebra. Projective modules are not defined only over commutative rings. I have added that R has to be unital.
