Hi, I'm the subject of this entry. I'd be grateful if the phrase 'Her father, Joseph Ludford, sent her to the independent Portsmouth High School...' could be replaced by 'She won a scholarship to the [then] direct grant school Portsmouth High School...'

The existing formulation is both sexist (as if my mother had no role in it!) and inaccurate in that he did not 'send' me - which suggests paying fees - but I got a scholarship from Hants County Council on the basis on the (then) 11+ exam. The pupils were a mix of fee-paying and publicly-funded scholarship.

All back in the mists of history (1962) but I hope you agree this makes it more accurate.
