Expansion

[edit]

Does this stadium have the ability to be expanded to a larger capacity. If Montreal Impact are admitted to the MLS then they would surely require a larger stadium? Lord Cornwallis (talk) 02:46, 7 April 2008 (UTC) Read today in World Soccer that if Impact were to join MLS the stadium would be expanded to 20,000 at a cost of $12 million, which I am adding to the article. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 01:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, some parts of the stadium (when I went), were empty. According to a pamphlet I received at the Montreal Impact game, the stadium can hold 13,000 people, and a possible 18,000 with expansion. "...le Stade Saputo, un stade de 13 000 sièges avec possibilté d'agrandissement jusqu'à 18 000 places..."Androo123 (talk) 22:10, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name in infobox

[edit]

Why are we calling it Stade Saputo in the infobox? If you visit the impact website, which is probably a good source for the name, and go to the English section, which we probably ought to as this is en-wp, they call it Saputo Stadium. Dbrodbeck (talk) 19:20, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've switched it round so the English name comes first with the French name below in brackets to reflect the current article title. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 16:49, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The club only refers to it as Stade Saputo (http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/stadium/stadium-expansion) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.138.203.60 (talk) 14:51, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The name should be Stade Saputo and the article should be moved. It's also used in the history section: http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/club/history and the Stadiums section of the main navigational heading. I'm prepared to move it if no one objects. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:57, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
According to WP:CANSTYLE the current naming convention is to reflect actual English usage. The CBC, The Globe and Mail, CTV and The Montreal Gazette all refer to Saputo Stadium, not Stade Saputo. I did a Google News search for "Stade Saputo", and almost all of the results were either in French or were from websites not based in Canada. Clearly, Stade Saputo is not common English usage.--MTLskyline (talk) 03:01, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is the en-wp. Dbrodbeck (talk) 03:12, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd agree there are no grounds for a move. Usage of Saputo Stadium appears to be overwhelming in English-language Canadian news coverage. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 22:47, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Recent undiscussed move

[edit]

3,100 hits for Saputo Stadium and 8,260 results for Stade Saputo, but most are French (such as Le Journal de Montréal, TVA Nouvelles). Is a move needed? Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:39, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
