English name
[edit]I think a more natural-sounding English name for this church would be "Saint Anne in the Vatican" rather than "in Vatican." English speaks always refer to the Vatican. Opinions? For what it's worth, the Holy See's website lists a sermon of Pope John Paul II to this parish and calls it "in the Vatican": [1] — AlekJDS talk 21:30, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. Note the scholarly searches by In ictu oculi showing the preferred name among English-language reliable sources and Alekjds's note above about the grammar. On a side note, the two "official" sites noted by the nominator appear to relate to the parish rather than the church. DrKiernan (talk) 12:57, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Sant'Anna dei Palafrenieri → Saint Anne in Vatican – Undo an earlier, un-discussed move. See talk below. Rwflammang (talk) 01:25, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]I see that the English name has been abandoned in favor of its Italian name. Need I remind the editors that this is the 'English Wikipedia? If an "official" name is desired, Shouln't Latin be used? The new name is ridiculous. Rwflammang (talk) 23:22, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
I see less than 5k links to the Italian name, a more than 1,800k links to the English name. The English name rocks. Rwflammang (talk) 23:43, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
If you want to use an Italian name on en.wikipedia (I don't know why you would) may I humbly suggest the MUCH more common Sant'Anna in Vaticano? Rwflammang (talk) 23:50, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Here is the parish's "official" website. Care to note the name? Rwflammang Rwflammang (talk) 23:51, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Here is the "official" website of Vatican. Note the name. Rwflammang (talk) 23:55, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose per sources "Church + Saint Anne in Vatican" gets 1 -wp GBhits (Father Chet Snyder 2008), while the current title has 191 English results since 1980. Sant'Anna dei Palafrenieri is the usual name in English. (FWIW, though not relevant given the English results, the parish is indeed known in Italian as "Parrocchia Sant'Anna in Vaticano", but the name found on the parish website: "La Chiesa di Sant'Anna in Vaticano (detta dei Palafrenieri)" isn't particularly common in Italian printed sources which defer to the usual title "[la chiesa di] Sant'Anna dei Palafrenieri" same as English).
