Should be Salamiyah, not al-Salamiyah
[edit]This article should be moved to Salamiyah, as it is the most common English language usage. al-Salamiyah isn't even the correct transliteration according to WP:MOSAR which prefers as-Salamiyah. Batternut (talk) 11:51, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
NB Originally created as Salamiyah, moved to Al-Salamiyah without discussion. Google book counts: Al-Salamiyah, Hama 58, Salamiyah, Hama 146; news counts: Al-Salamiyah, Hama 60, Salamiyah, Hama 160.

Salamiyah is not Salamias
[edit]Salamiyah was not a center of Christianity, it was not even considered a city by George of Cyprus or Hierocles in the 6th century. Salamias was a city that had an exempt bishopric within the Antioch patriarchy. It was located in the Roman province of Siria I, near Antioch, in a currently unlocated location. The location of the current city of Salamiyah corresponds to the ancient Roman province of Phoenicia Libanesia. See the works of Le Quien, Vailhé, Honigmann and Devreesse.
