Cost
[edit]It would be helpful to know what the cost of an ordinary bogie is, so as to compare the cost of the SUW 2000 bogie.

Combinations of gauges?
[edit]So far, SUW 2000 has been applied to standard gauge 1435 and a wider gauge. Here there is room for the variable gauge axles equipment and the disk brakes.
With gauges narrower than standard gauge 1435 such as metre gauge 1000 and cape gauge 1067 there is less room for the disk brakes and there may be problems.
It is also unclear if the SUW 2000 will support more than two gauges. This affects the way that the wheels lock into the axle like a key. For use in particular markets the following combinations of important gauges are required:
Africa
[edit](minor gauges omitted)
- 1067
- 1000
- 1435
- 950 - Eritrea
Asia
[edit]- 1000 - Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh
- 1067 - Indonesia, Sakhalin Island, Japan
- 1435 - China, Europe, Iran, Middle East, Japan Shinkansen
- 1676 - Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
America
[edit]- 1435 - North America, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, FERISTSA
- 1000 - Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile
- 1600 - Brazil
- 1676 - Argentina, Chile
- 914
- 1067
Europe
[edit]- 1435
- 1520
- 1676 Indian gauge
- 1668 Iberian gauge
- Spain and Portugal are building a network of 1435 lines and dual gauge.
It is not known if the tiny 8mm difference between Indian gauge and Iberian gauge prevents inter-running.
Australia
[edit]- 1435
- 1067
- 1600

Incidents
[edit]After an incident at the SUW2000 gauge changer at Mostiska 2 on 3 October 2006, the through Krakow – Kiev service was interrupted and a change of train from Standard to Broad gauge was required at the PKP border station of Medyka. This continued until 29 October 2006 when the change of train was moved to Przemyśl. It is believed a through service via the gauge changer may be reinstated in January 2007.
