How many ryō in a koku? I am reading a document right now that stipulates that at a certain point in the Edo period, the Morioka han was producing roughly 500,000 ryō per year (Gross Han Product). How many koku was the han worth? How are these concepts related? Thanks to anyone who can help with this. (and if there is a direct relationship, it should be added to the article, ne?) I would imagine it would depend on which period you're talking about. The value of the ryō gradually declined, thus, the value of a koku in ryō would, presumably, have gradually increased. I suspect there probably was a standard rate at any given time, though Nik42 04:16, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Monme to Ryo?

[edit]

If 60 monme (匁) are equal to 1 ryo (両), why does 1 ryo have the value 4 bu (分) if 1 monme consists of 10 bu? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.80.127.134 (talk) 00:07, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ryō (currency unit)RyōRyō has been a redirect to this article since 2007, indicating that the currency unit is the primary topic. Per WP:PRECISION, titles should be precise enough to unambiguously define the topical scope of the article, but no more precise than that; “(currency unit)” is unnecessarily precise, which means Ryō is a better title. Rename first References section to Notes

[edit]

The first Ryō#References section looks very much like a "Notes" section in other articles. Would it be okay if I renamed it? SmallMender (talk) 19:56, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Clean-up of Koban and Ryo articles

[edit]

I recently started working on sourcing for the Koban article and realized there is a lot of overlaps between that article and Ryō. In fact, the Ryō#Tokugawa period section could arguably be moved to Koban, since it talks primarily about different kobans over the years.

The articles could theoretically be merged, but because the terms are not perfectly synonymous and the final article would cover too many topics, it might not work in my opinion. I would rather slowly clean up and add citations to both articles first. SmallMender (talk) 18:36, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
