Filling in the Gaps
[edit]I'd like to add more background to Ruth Hale (feminist), who is a little-known champion of women's rights. And a decent photo would be nice too. Any help appreciated! -- k72ndst 11:28, 02 January 2006 (UTC)
Anachronism
[edit]Is it an anachronism to call Ruth Hale a feminist?? How would she have referred to herself? I don't think it's accurate to use the word feminist as a simple synonym for women's rights advocate. David 11:40, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- What one word do you suggest to replace, if "feminist" does not work any longer? We are talking the era of the 1920s, remember. --K72ndst 21:21, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- That's just the problem — feminism is a collection of specific intellectual and political movements that rose up in the 1970's, if I recall correctly; it's not a general term for "women's rights advocacy". Maybe "women's rights advocate" or something simply "rights advocate" would work. David 12:26, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- I did rewrite the beginning of this article. However, if you follow women's rights, it takes readers to feminism. Is this what you want? I am not up on the terminology currently in vogue for them. --K72ndst 13:54, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks — I like your rewrite, and hopefully, we can do something about the redirect later. I'd also be happy to see the title changed to Ruth Hale (women's rights advocate) or something similar, but we'll need to hear what other people think before doing a move. David 14:39, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Good idea. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:80EB:6200:1C19:A87B:6DDC:46EB (talk) 04:47, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
