Quick Comments

[edit]

Just some quick comments, the repitive use of "he" is annoying  Done. I noticed some of your sentences are a couple words long and start with "he". The personal life section needs to be expanded. I'll give a full list of comments later JDOG555 (talk) 21:31, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have replaced a bunch of the "he"s.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:14, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
Disregard
The lead for this article is good only 2 things I would consider changing or removing Lead seems pretty good, can't seem anything wrong with it
Disregard
  • "He has endured disciplinary issues that have necessitated transfers in both high school and college."
Is this neccessary? Sounds kinda uneeded to me.
Unless you think it is misleading or POV it should remain, IMO. So much of the text describes the issues at Minnesota, that I can't see how you could summarize the article and not include at least that.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:22, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disregard
  • "His success at the college and professional level is highly anticipated."
I would suggest removing this statement, too bias.
This is also a summary of points in the text: 1.) expected NBA first rounder 2.) Big 12 Preseason Newcomeer of the Year. Considering the specific prose it is summarizing, is it still biased?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:25, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More or better pictures of White

[edit]

I went through the set vs. Iowa some time ago.

If anyone is looking for more or better pictures of White from college, feel free to thumb through the following:

vs Baylor
vs Texas Tech
vs Texas A&M
vs Kansas State
vs Oklahoma State
vs Texas

I believe those were all home games. There are other sets against non-power conferences. Maybe some of those guys will be pro players in the future.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:26, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page as a whole

[edit]

This article seems to have way too many details about his career in comparison to players with similar careers (decent college players, insignificant NBA career)...the daily updates/articles about his NBA status, extremely high number of pictures of his 1 season in college...

Seems like this page needs to be edited to a much, much more concise version where you don't have to read about every college game and every article written about his NBA career. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TallKidIsTall (talkcontribs) 03:26, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I just did a major overhaul to make it more concise and readable. I have no idea how this was ever listed as a good article. It's not even a good article now with all the changes I made; it was nowhere close to being a good article before. MonMothma (talk) 21:26, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Royce White NBL Canada MVP detail

[edit]

Can anyone help me find the announcement that Royce White was named NBL Canada MVP. I want to see the vote and who the other contenders were.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 17:43, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • TonyTheTiger I can't find information on who the other contenders are. I assume they are the other members of the all-league team but that info isn't public either. I haven't seen the NBL Canada release that info in past seasons until after the postseason. The league made the announcement on this page . TempleM (talk) 00:44, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV dispute

[edit]

Parts of this article appear to have either been written by the subject or his publicist.

The opening description of him as a "humanitarian" and a "creator" are not objective terms.

The final paragraph of the opening section "White frequently challenges the fundamentals of capitalism and corporate culture and how the two are a major roadblock to achieving a better social equity and quality. White claims a business style of social entrepreneurship. A concept that is becoming very popular amongst millennial entrepreneurs.[4]" are not objective and clearly meant to be complimentary.

This article has also had negative comments and depictions of him and his behavior removed from the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Golotaguy (talkcontribs) 18:43, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There have been versions of this article that have had questionable content, but I have reverted a few changes that I do not feel misrepresent the subject.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 13:47, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2020 Sports Illustrated article

[edit]

I've updated and incorporated some of the material from this SI article into White's page; namely, his training and plans to have his first MMA fight this year, and a quote from an unnamed NBA GM describing him as a "Curt Flood-type" figure for his efforts to bring more attention to mental health in the sport. White is still primarily notable for his tenure in the NBA, so it would be premature to identify him as an MMA fighter until he's begun to participate in matches. Result: Delist, as the article has not been kept up to date + there are NPOV concerns. Femke (talk) 17:05, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article is woefully outdated. It does not include enough details about White's recent political activities, public statements, or his recently announced campaign for congress (MN-05). Also, as others have pointed out on the talk page, negative edits tend be removed quickly (possibly by a PR team?). It no longer meets the criteria for a good article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Minneapples (talkcontribs) 17:15, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Let's not war over basic WP:BLP requirements plz

[edit]

If you're going to say mean things about people (particularly in the first sentence of their article), you have to have some kind of source. You really need to have proof from good sources per WP:BLP, but I mean you ought to have at least something. There's no "oh everybody knows it" or "enh who cares, we just don't like the guy" exceptions to WP:BLP.

It's not a matter of whether the statement is true or not. The reader needs to be able to have a source to check for verification. If "oh its just obvious" is in play then there ought to be be plenty of good sources readily available. Herostratus (talk) 11:02, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What are you referring to? Dflovett (talk) 14:54, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't say without a source -- WP:BLP rules apply to talk pages, too. But my edit's in the history, and that's the second time I've had to remove it. Herostratus (talk) 23:07, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently they're referring to the use of "conspiracy theorist" in the lead which they have removed with an overly dramatized edit summary reading It's libel if if its not true. It can't assumed to be true if you don't give a source. Do not war over this, discuss at talk, see talk. (And, yes, we can discuss it.) -- Pemilligan (talk) 00:19, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's only one of me, please don't misnumber me. Anyway, all I'm asking for is a good source. (Don't feel like doing it myself... normally I would pass it by (or just tag) don't usually go for drive-by redactions, but it's BLP so I'm actually required to.) Royce White is not a "far-right" individual. There is an obvious political bias here.

Not done: There are many sources saying that he is. Even the New York Post calls him far-right. Wikipedia goes by what reliable sources say, not by the opinions of its editors - whether that's the people you perceive as being biased, or you. --AntiDionysius (talk) 17:39, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
