Involvement in the Syrian Civil War
[edit]Hasn't this group become involved in the Syrian Civil War? How come there's no information about that here? Charles Essie (talk) 23:16, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Requested move 14 November 2015
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved. Obviously we try to avoid slashes where possible, but we can't do that by creating titles that aren't used by any reliable sources. As no one objecting has cited any sources spelling these organisations with a dash or hyphen, while the nominator has provided sources using the slash, I find that there is a consensus to move. Jenks24 (talk) 08:23, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- Revolutionary People's Liberation Party–Front → Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front
- People's Liberation Party–Front of Turkey/Revolutionary Coordination Union → People's Liberation Party/Front of Turkey – Revolutionary Coordination Union
– This article was renamed in 2010 by @Koavf, introducing the en-dash. While in most other cases, this was a correct decision, here it wasn't, as in this case the hyphen doesn't represent a range, ratio nor otherwise a relation between "party" and "front" as two separate entities.
You can see it in two different ways: One perspective is that the organization indivisibly and indistinguishably is party and front at the same time, just as a singer-songwriter indivisibly and indistinguishably is singer and songwriter at the same time. The other perspective is that the organization is supposed to have two faces, so we're speaking of either the "Revolutionary People's Liberation Party" or the "Revolutionary People's Liberation Front", with "party" resp. "front" being interchangeable.
Either way, only a hyphen or a slash is correct here, but not an en-dash. Same holds for the other nominated article, both originating from the "People's Liberation Party/Front of Turkey" (THKP/C). See also MOS:ENDASH.
Amongst the two valid options of using either a hyphen or a slash, I tend to prefer the slash because it is so much easier to read, especially for the various THKP/C successor groups with further annexes in the name. Also, the original THKP/C had two distinct logos, supporting the "two faces of the same organization" perspective, see THKP-C_logo.jpg.

- @PanchoS: Cf. WP:SLASH: due to technical reasons, a hyphen would be preferred. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 04:38, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Koavf: You meant WP:TITLESLASH, but that's only a minor technical problem with the talk page (that actually should be technically solved). IMHO the reader's experience is more important, and therefore it is preferable if the article names of at least nine THKP/C successor groups, of which currently at least the one co-nominated exists, are properly readable. PanchoS (talk) 05:44, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose per SLASH -- avoid it whenever possible. So, the other proposed pages should also have their slashes stripped if possible. (such as People's Liberation Party–Front of Turkey—Revolutionary Coordination Union ) -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 07:28, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- Again, only WP:TITLESLASH is relevant here, and doesn't discourage using slashes where appropriate. This name-dropping is really annoying – please first read what you're referring to.
- Now, as worked out in the request, the en-dash is incorrect between "Party" and "Front". But the following scheme would be perfectly possible here, if preferred:
- --PanchoS (talk) 08:06, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
Abbreviation
[edit]The only official abbreviation is DHKP-C and not DHKP/C. I could quote many examples (party's statement, documents, articles and photos)
https://workersspatula.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/dhkp-c.jpg http://www.haber61.net/d/other/dhkpc-flama.jpg
- @MLMist: I don't object to that. The question above was, how is the name spelled in full, preferably in English-language sources. And while I've seen both the use of a hyphen (-) or of a slash (/), the only thing that was really wrong was the use of a dash (–).
If you have compelling arguments for using a hyphen (-) rather than a slash (/) in the full title, then I'm absolutely fine with restarting the naming issue. PanchoS (talk) 14:25, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- If we do reopen the name discussion I would recommend we simply call it DHKP-C. The full title isn't used nearly as often. Charles Essie (talk) 21:43, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
