Requested move

[edit]

"Profession (religious)" is ambiguous and can be (indeed, has been) confused with Profession of Faith, the subject of a separate article (Creed). "Religious profession" is a recognized technical term, as shown by the quote from an authoritative source. Lima 11:01, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious. I don't see that "religious profession" is one iota less ambiguous. Gene Nygaard 15:12, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: no consensus. It has been suggested the article should deal/include other aspects, and not just Catholic. This should be done after discussion at relevant talkpage(s). Regards, —usernamekiran (talk) 04:44, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Religious professionReligious profession in Catholicism – While this article is only linked to my what appear to be Catholic institutions, a "religious profession" in itself is not Catholic, and is rather synonymous with a creed. This move reflects that this article only is relevant to the Catholic tradition and frees up the article space to redirect to creed instead, as again, a profession of religious adherence and a creed are really quite synonymous. • Oppose – I see what you're trying to say, but a reading of Creed and Religious profession seems to suggest that they discuss different topics despite the similar names, and are not synonymous. Creed discusses the general declaration of belief in the tenets of a religion, whereas Religious profession discusses the practice of an already-Catholic individual dedicating themselves to some advanced ascetic form of life. The current arrangement to handle distinct topics that could have similar names is the most appropriate per WP:NATURALDIS and WP:NCDAB, and there is no specific need to free up the article just to be used as a redirect. In addition, given that they are distinct and are not subsets of each other, then I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to rename this article that would imply it to be a subset of Creed. Lastly, the meaning of "the practice of an already-Catholic individual dedicating themselves to some advanced ascetic form of life" already appears to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the term "religious profession" without further qualification - a casual search for "religious profession" seems to bring me to pages that use this meaning, not that of Creed. I hope this makes sense! Epistulae ad Familiares (talk) 17:25, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Expand the article to deal the whole topic, not just the Charolic one (POV). --79.50.143.229 (talk) 15:17, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
