There have been some deleted attempts at creating a separate article under the title regular octahedron that would focus on the regular case, freeing the octahedron title to refer to eight-sided polyhedra more generally.
The most recent comment in the edit history of the deleted version was "the article most likely deserves to exist. But, please read the arguments for the previous reversals: it makes no sense when a WP:SPLIT article is worse than what can be found at the redirect target."
