Rename

[edit]

I think this article in it's current form should be renamed to List of Railway stations in Italy. There wasn't any detail about italian railway staion which could be used as a basis for a general article. (Also there's now 2000 individual article to write!) Proposed split of article

[edit]

This article contains a lot of useful information. However, it is also far too long (approximately 12 times as long as the recommended limit for en.wikipedia articles, which is about 20,000 character strokes). Its extreme length makes it too slow to load, difficult to read, and difficult to edit.

I therefore propose to split the article into separate lists of railway stations in each region. Each of the smaller articles could then be the main article in the relevant "Category:Railway stations in [Name of Region]". As someone has already suggested that the present article be renamed in the form "List of railway stations in [place]", this might be an opportune time to adopt that suggestion. Any comments? Splitting list articles makes little sense to me. The whole point of having a list is to have all the items referenced in one place. Our time would be better spent creating articles to make the red links blue. Railwayfan2005 (talk) 22:51, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In the past three months or so, I have created about 100 new articles about individual Italian railway stations. I was alerted to the problem with this list article when I made some minor modifications to it, to link it correctly with some of those articles. As I have said, the article exceeds the recommended limit by a huge margin. It is already divided up into regions. The only question is whether each region should be given its own page. What I have in mind has already been done for Germany. See Railway stations in Germany and, eg, List of railway stations in Baden-Württemberg. I now propose to use the same article naming practice as well. Bahnfrend (talk) 00:31, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it seems that only you and I have any interest in this page... Lets split the article up then. I suggest we add Italy to the name of the regional articles: List of railway stations in Lombardy, Italy etc. Any ideas on the best way to do this? All I've come up with at the moment is to duplicate the article and strip out the irrelevant stations. Railwayfan2005 (talk) 21:16, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
List of Railway stations in Italy Railwayfan2005 (talk) 21:28, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should do it the same way as for Germany. The List page you've just created is really only going to be a duplicate of this page, and would need to be renamed anyway, to remove the capitalisation of the "R" in "railway". I think it should be deleted. I also don't think that sublists need to have "Italy" on the end. They should just be named the same way as the corresponding categories, eg Category:Railway stations in Abruzzo ; List of railway stations in Abruzzo. Note: I've redirected the article List of railway stations in Italy to this one because it is a duplicate. But i've transformed its content (lists per region) in a template: Template:Italian railway stations. ", Italy" after list of railway stations in xxx is unnecessary because the regional name are not ambiguous (and so discouraged by policies). The form is the same adopted for this template for Germany. Due to the fact that it exists a category per all the 20 regions here, the categorization may be better done per region. An idea to split the article

[edit]

When I improved this article, it was different and the style was the same adopted for Railway stations in Germany (See this version). As read above I've understood that you both think to split the article (the complete RFI list) into regional lists, also because it is too heavy to read.

One year ago i've thinked it was still not the time to make 20 regional lists linked from here (as from correspondant German page). But now, after your good works (creation of hundred articles by Bahnfrend, a table with a complete list created by Railwayfan2005), this operation is now possible. I repeat, as read above, you agree, so i proceed to create the regional lists and to structure this article again as the German one, of course with the see also redirects. Regards and, of course, my congratulations for your efforts :-) . --Dэя-Бøяg 19:12, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done . I've created the regional list articles with the names similar to correspondant categories. Many of them may be checked for links to some municipalities, villages and stations (eg.: en.wp prevides the form "San" and not "S." for place -and station- titles as San Benedetto del Tronto, and not the official FS form S.Benedetto). I've structured the main article (this) as the German one, replacing the basic form (with some differences) avoiding to lose informations. I've placed links to some of main italian stations, also the ones of provincial seats, important or touristic towns (also the ones not owned by FS), main junctions (also on secondary lines), most of InterCity stops and so on. I've also placed the pictures of some of the main italian stations. Of course, feel free to modify if you don't like this structure and/or want to replace the complete table. I hope I was as clear as possible (for readers and users) creating the 20 regional lists (based on the 16 articles of German stations per federal state) and restructuring this article. I also hope that my work has well interpreted your way to re-organize the "big split" (also basing my work on the pre-existant list about Abruzzo); if not I'm sorry, you can revert all. Reguarding the copyedit, i've corrected some of the links, and i think to correct the others in next months. (All checked :-) --Dэя-Бøяg 15:33, 19 February 2011 (UTC)) I left the links the to the frazioni, also the ones with a red link. Best of regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 22:37, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to get more general content on this page - and leave the listing to List of railway stations in Italy. The current content is not really very encyclopaedic, and it fails as a list. Railwayfan2005 (talk) 22:28, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The "problem" is that it could sound as a duplicated article and I've not seen other articles divided in Railway stations in COUNTRYNAME and List of railway stations in COUNTRYNAME. By now i've transformed this into a redirect . If you want to add more general content you are welcome. This is not only a list (so the title) and not a so heavy article. I think that a general description with a list may stay together. IMHO it could be better to improve the informations into a singular article instead into two similar pages. I left for the general content you want to add an overview section (now empty). Note: I based this article not only on German one, but also on most of its brothers (see for exemple the ones for African countries). Good work. --Dэя-Бøяg 22:50, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, ok. The overview section is no more necessary. I'm seeing your work. Well done ;-) . Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 22:59, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
