Ill Wind

[edit]

@Branjsmith94: I don't believe "Ill Wind" should be considered a single, as per this discussion with BLZ. Apple Music seems to use the word "single" for any track released to streaming services outside of an album or EP, and a streaming service itself isn't an ideal source. Popcornduff (talk) 06:09, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Popcornduff: I see exactly what you mean. However, I still would classify this as a digital single. It charted after it was released, it has its own artwork across all the streaming services, and several sources refer to it as a single. Branjsmith94 (talk) 14:27, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure those first two are what makes something a single. As for the third point, I can find several mentions to it being originally released as a "CD single" with "Spectre"... but that's not really accurate, because this is referring to the bonus CD released with A Moon Shaped Pool. Still other sources refer to it as a bonus track or B-side (even when reporting the digital release).
BLZ has a much better grasp of the technical definition of a single - any thoughts, BLZ? Popcornduff (talk) 14:48, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think it makes more sense to put "Ill Wind" in "Other charted songs". Popcornduff had asked me about the same question about how to classify "Ill Wind" earlier (but in a different context); the discussion we had can be found here. It honestly is a close call because, in the streaming era, the question of what counts as a "single" (and why) is evolving and becoming increasingly slippery. The critical thing, for me, was that none of the major sources I found from the time of "Ill Wind"'s release on streaming platforms characterized it as a "single". If sources called the bonus disc for A Moon Shaped Pool a "CD single", that's not inaccurate exactly—it's an accurate characterization of the contents and length of the CD itself—but it still doesn't make it a single in its own right because it's part of a packaged release (the same way that a full-length bonus CD is not necessarily an "album" in its own right). —BLZ · talk 20:10, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm with BLZ here. @I need a name:: You've also contributed to similar discussions, care to chip in? Popcornduff (talk) 03:11, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Are box sets compilation albums?

[edit]

Some discographies, like Pink Floyd's, don't list them as compilation albums. Marcoszeros (talk) 11:36, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
