Rachel Carson Middle School was named after Rachel Carson, a well known author who wrote about problems in nature. THe middle school is located in Fairfax County, Virginia. Its mascot is the panther. The school is divided into two stories, the 1st floor for the 7th graders, and the top floor for the 8th grades. Each flor is divided into four "pods" or teams.
7th Grade- All Stars Team, Trailblazers Team, Champions Team, Dream Team
8th Grade- Xtreme Team, Dolphins Team, Wolves Team, Yellow Jacket Team
The four core classes (english, history, math 7/honors, and science for 7th; english, civics, algebra/geometry, and chemistry for 8th) are usually held in the students' pod, while the electives (art, PE, IFL, Tech Ed., Tech Tools, etc.) can be held anywhere throughout the school.
Stub
[edit]Should it really be called a stub? There is all the information to say about RCMS listed, for the most part, and encyclopedia articles can be short. There are short WorldBook articles! --68.98.162.253 21:40, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Additions
[edit]This article really needs to grow. PErhaps p[eople could add information about school activites and courses. That could make it a more informative article.

Fair use rationale for Image:CarsonMS.gif
[edit]Image:CarsonMS.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:54, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- I added a fair use template to the image, and filled it out to the best of my ability. If I screwed up, will somebody who knows better please correct it. Violaguy 17:07, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject class rating
[edit]This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as stub, and the rating on other projects was brought up to Stub class. BetacommandBot 10:31, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Second Articles for Deletion nomination
[edit]This article survived another Articles for Deletion debate. The discussion can be found here. While the first debate closed as "no consensus", this one ended up as "keep". I think the food tampering incident has contributed substantially to notability. --FlamingSilmaril 01:00, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Pictures, Electives
[edit]I happen to live very close to Rachel Carson Middle School, and so I could probably take an image of the outside of the school, if this is necessary. Maybe I can go inside the school, and ask permission to take images (with permission from the administrators, or course), so that we can add more images to this relatively image-lacking article. Also, I feel that we can add some more information about the electives offered at the school, as per an anonymous IP's suggestion. However, I do feel that I would like some help as to what information I should include. I don't want to do anything that might seem wrong to some people. I want to help Wikipedia grow. Thanks! I dont think express permission is required to take a photo or two of the front of the school. Thank you for the offer to take some photos though. however i found some on google images we could possibly use[User:Chrismcb|Chrismcb]] December 27, 2008
- Well, I think I will just take a picture, because I don't want to meddle around with any copyright issues. You know Wikipedia is strict about their copyright policies, and I don't want to break any. Anyway, thanks for your reply.TheMathinator (talk) 18:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- I have finally got some pictures of Rachel Carson Middle School: Images of RCMS at Commons. Should this article still be a stub-class? I think we should upgrade it to start-class, but I'm not sure. TheMathinator (talk) 18:10, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Food tampering section removed
[edit]For some reason, User:Hullaballoo_Wolfowitz removed the section on food tampering, due to its encyclopedic insignificance. However, one of the only reasons this page was not deleted was because of this incident, which made the article "notable." I think that this section should be added back.
