Acorns!
[edit]Boy, you don't want this tree near your house. The number of acorns produced and the mess they create is huge. Tiny acorns, but thousands and thousands of them from one tree...so thickly carpeting the ground that they kill the grass.

Map of habitat incorrect
[edit]I have personally seen water oaks in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, but the map shows that they do not grow there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oneunnamed (talk • contribs) 15:05, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I have one in my front yard in Tulsa County, Oklahoma.99.50.43.223 (talk) 01:51, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Size update
[edit]It was stated that a water oak tree has a diameter of up to 1m (3 ft), but I commonly see water oaks in the 4-5 ft diameter range. I had 3 water oaks in my front yard 1 was 63 inches (5'-3") it has since been cut down because semi trailers would hit the lower limbs while traveling. Another one is 52 inches (4'-4"). The last one is right at 5 ft diameter. I live in southern Mississippi. Maybe the size of trees increase as you mover closer to the coast.
The measurements where taken at the narrowest point on the main trunk, not near the base or where the tree starts to branch. (Aurriean (talk) 14:42, 12 March 2009 (UTC))
