Quench (disambiguation) → Quench – Quench currently redirects to Quenching as a result of a move although it is not flagged as that. However there is no case for quenching in materials science being the primary topic of quench. In particular, a magnetic quench is of growing interest with the increasing and notable use of superconducting magnets. Andrewa (talk) 09:08, 18 February 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. - Oppose. Clear primary redirect. In fact, quenching one's thirst is probably primary, but that's no more than a dicdef. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:44, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support per nomination, otherwise the main title header of this dab page should be Quenching (disambiguation). A user who is actually researching quenching and not one of the seven "quench" [uppercase "Q"] entries listed under Quench (disambiguation)#Other uses, but nonetheless types "quench", rather than "quenching", will still be able to access the desired destination by following the lead line with the link at the top of the page — "A quench, in materials science, is a rapid cooling." —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 03:16, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
- Here are the pageviews for pages linked from the dab. Quenching is not included there since it's only linked via a redirect, but it gets around 357 daily views. The data are a bit tricky to interpret here since a lot of these are WP:DABMENTION links or redirects. Colin M (talk) 17:49, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, and yes, difficult. So I'm more interested in the significance. It seems to me that a magnet quench of ITER or of an MRI machine (there are several of these on youtube, some quite spectacular) is now it least as good a candidate for primary topic as the metallworking usage of the term, hence, no PT, and the DAB should be at the base name.
