Request photo of Signal Box

As the signal box is of some significance, being the largest surviving GWR Signal Box in the country, can I please request a suitable image of the building is sourced.

@Redrose64: Thanks for your reply, I did indeed find one. However, being a new contributor, I am not sure I have added it to Wikipedia correctly. @Edgeorge92: As regards placement in the article, I would have made it right-aligned, by omitting the |left.

But as regards the image itself, File:PrincesRisboroughNorthSignalBox.jpg, I've tagged it {{wrong-license}}, because you've uploaded it with the {{cc-by-3.0}} license tag (described at CC BY 3.0), whereas the original file on Flickr is shown as Some rights reserved. This license is also known as CC BY-ND 2.0, which might look similar, but it is somewhat different: apart from the version numbers, that (or -ND, which means No Derivatives) is crucial.

When uploading images that have already been published elsewhere, the license of the original must be compatible with Wikipedia, and where possible, the license used on Wikipedia should be the same as the original. Wikipedia does have {{cc-by-nd-2.0}}, which looks like a license tag, but will result in the speedy deletion of the image under WP:CSD#F3. The presence of the -ND that I mentioned earlier means that the image is not acceptable to Wikipedia, see WP:ICT. It is unlikely that you will be able to get the Flickr uploader (Ingy The Wingy) to relicense the image as something Wikipedia-compatible, which means that you, as uploader to Wikipedia, need to fix the license on File:PrincesRisboroughNorthSignalBox.jpg and also give it a cast-iron fair-use rationale. Without that, the image may get sent to WP:PUF or even marked {{di-no permission}}. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:06, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

@Redrose64: Many thanks for that detailed description of what I did wrong. I can only apologise for making such a rookie error. I have replaced the image with an images already uploaded to Commons (File:Princes_Risborough_-_Former_Signalbox_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1326100.jpg) as I believe this is acceptable. Feel free to request deletion on the one I had previously submitted. However can I still request a better image for the article as this substitute, in my opinion, is not a great representation of the building. Ed George ^talk 12:56, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

I found File:Disused signalbox at Princes Risborough - geograph.org.uk - 1458673.jpg which you probably overlooked because it wasn't in c:Category:Princes Risborough railway station - I've put it into that cat now. It originally came from this page on Geograph. Geograph is a good source for images, because:

• they are typically licensed {{cc-by-sa-2.0}} (described at CC BY-SA 2.0), which is almost exactly what we want (we'd prefer 3.0, but there's so little in it that it's not worth worrying about)
• the Geograph page has a line "Find out how to reuse this image · For example on your webpage, blog, a forum, or Wikipedia" which takes you to a page with various instructions - including a section on Wikipedia for searching Commons to see if it's already there, and how to upload to Commons if not already there
• there's a link upper left - in this case SP7902 - which searches for other images in the same 1 km grid square

Many Geograph images are on Commons already, just badly categorised. When I find one that is useful, I categorise it. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:11, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
