Confusion of terms
[edit]The term "port operator", as defined in this article, muddles the company that operates the port with the companies that operate the terminals at the port. Zurich Australia defines "port operator" as:
- the legal entity that technically and commercially operates a port and, if specifically agreed by us, includes any port authority, harbour authority, harbour board, corporation, or other legal entity that operates any port or harbour.
And "terminal operator" as:
- the legal entity that technically and commercially operates any container, break-bulk, bulk liquid or dry-bulk commodity marine terminal for the purpose of loading or unloading cargo from or to a ship and the marshalling and storage of such cargo.
So for example, the Port of Melbourne Corporation and Port of London Authority are port operators, but DP World and ICTSI are terminal operators. All of the "port operators" listed in this article are actually terminal operators. A new category for terminal operators would also be of use. Miracle Pen (talk) 15:56, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- It seems to me that the problem is that the specific duties and responsibilities of the of these companies is different. Some of these essentially are the port authority and also manage logistics, and sometimes the legal authority is separate from the logistics and operations. Gnisacc (talk) 18:43, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
table of port operators/terminal operators
[edit]transformed the list to a table, would be nice to make sure that the list of revenues matched the main articles for those operators, and also get the amount of tonnage they are responsible for operating. Gnisacc (talk) 18:40, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
