I have found this result referred to as the von Szökefalvi Nagy-Popoviciu inequality, whereas just "Popoviciu inequality" seems to lead to something that looks rather different and very complicated. This seems to be a citation for the result given in this article:

  • Popoviciu, T. 1935. “Sur Les Équations Algébriques Ayant Toutes Leurs Racines Réelles.” Mathematica 9:129–145.

I have not seen this, but I found it in http://gking.harvard.edu/files/cem.pdf and this indicates that a full form for the inequality would have a lower bound in the case of a finite population. Melcombe (talk) 15:09, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
