title of page - opening sentence

Stop changing it! It is officially known as "Home" and it is marketted as Home, not "PlayStation Home". It is referred to by third parties as PlayStation Home as its more practical that way. Hence the opening sentence stating that fact!! Its listing on here is called PlayStation Home because the term "home" is more searched for as in a family house, then probably the Michael Buble's (and Westlife cover of) "Home" is probably also more searched for and so on. As its unreleased software it will be like that for a while. Its like, a while back if you searched for "virtual console" it would come up with a page about Linux. Now though the term is more searched for for the Wii service, and I therefore put a divert and move to the correct pages. However in this instance, the term Home will always be searched for as in a family house than this software. Continually and innaccurately changing this is edit warring. Chocobogamer (talk) 22:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

It would appear that Home seems to be a more easily referenced title, not Playstation home. Concerning if it is European or North American, see http://www.us.playstation.com/Media/Trailer/15963/GDC_2007_PlayStation_Home and http://uk.playstation.com/games-media/games/detail/item73986/Home/. Either way, please stop reverting the page constantly, discuss it here. John.n-IRL 23:48, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
SCEA refers to the platform as "PlayStation Home" (http://www.us.playstation.com/News/PressReleases/403 <-- press release from E3 2007 about Sony's plans for the PSN. It mentions "PlayStation Home" nine times.) I hope that is enough proof for you of the validity of the term "PlayStation Home." Thingg 23:52, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

PlayStation Home/Home

The name is PlayStation Home, official or not it can't start with Home, as the Article title is PlayStation Home, and then "More known as Home" RkOrToN 23:48, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

what planet are you on? stating that uk.playstation.com isn't official? it doesn't matter what location it is, its still owned by SCE. you are totally wrong on this matter -i t is marketted as Home, it is advertised as Home, the preview pictures of the application is Home. :Wikipedia isn't always accurate, just because the page here is called PlayStation Home doesn't make it so in real life.
Of course it can start with Home. However I will make a change to stop this problem.
Also, I am not the one starting an edit war, you innaccurately changed the introduction. That needed correcting. You reverted a correct change and therefore started an edit war. Chocobogamer (talk) 23:56, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
The article is named that for clarification, not its because its the official name. And articles follow common use, not branded names. However that does not change the name of the product. And concerning your comment about the validity of a SCEE ref over a SCEA ref, both are valid sources as both are divisions of Sony Computer Entertainment. On the particular topic of Home, it is possible that SCEE would be a better source, as it is apparently an SCEE developed product. ALSO, please, both cool down, its only a name. John.n-IRL 23:59, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Thankyou. As I said in the previous section, which seems to have been completely ignored, it is for named for said reasons. I have made an edit to say "PlayStation Home (marketted globally simply as Home)" Hope this stops the war as it is a more neutralised point. The reversion saying that its more practically known as Home is completely illogical if its called PlayStation home (which its not). Chocobogamer (talk) 00:02, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
On the contrary, both SCEE and SCEA refer to the platform as "PlayStation Home" This is the press release from E3 2007 about Sony's plans for the PSN. It mentions "PlayStation Home" nine times. I hope that is enough proof for you of the validity of the term "PlayStation Home." Thingg 23:52, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Wheres the proof SCEE calls it PlayStation Home? Thats a US page and thats not proof SCEE market it as that. However on the official UK Home page, http://uk.playstation.com/games-media/games/detail/item73986/Home/ it doesn't say PlayStation Home here, but also notice it will be developed and published by SCEE, so if they call it Home, not PlayStation Home, thats what it will be marketted as. Also, note the US page on the announcement doesn't call it PlayStation Home either: http://www.us.playstation.com/News/PressReleases/382
Anyway, I have made a change to stop the arguing, so why are we still talking about it? Chocobogamer (talk) 00:15, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
There is a difference between arguing about it and talking about it, talking is fine. :) I think we'll be able to find releases supporting both(still SCEA = PS Home, SCEE = Home in all iv seen after a quick look). John.n-IRL 00:22, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Although SCEE appears to call it "Home" almost exclusively, the newer information from SCEA calls it PlayStation Home. (I might add here that generally, the newest information is the information we give priority to) Thus, the opening statement is not accurate because it is not marketed globally as "Home". (The July, 2007, press release from SCEA proves this.) I think we should leave it the way it was before the edit war because it is known and marketed by both names. Thingg 00:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

This press release is titled "PlayStation Home" and then refers to the platform as simply "Home". Based on the different names being used by Sony, I think we could have the article start something like this: "PlayStation Home, (also marketed as simply Home) is a..." Any objections? Thingg 00:29, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Thats almost the same as how I put it, so I'm for it, I think it will keep the peace. I think that unless the logo and title officially change, it definitely needs to still have a reference to being called simply Home. Look at the PSP, its called the PlayStation Portable but marketted as PSP. How many people call it by its full name and not its initials? Chocobogamer (talk) 00:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Just to make sure, you're ok with it being written the way I suggested? (don't want to ignite anarchy again ;) ) Thingg 00:36, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Haha yup change away, as I said its almost the same as what I had it except not saying its marketted globally as Home. Chocobogamer (talk) 00:39, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Done. And thanks for not going nuts like I started to do... Thingg 00:43, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I think that reads well and works with the refs(will add them now.) John.n-IRL 01:00, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Chocobogamer, assume good faint for god sakes, is that so hard? Thingg is actually making a good point, you just start waring over all of this, what planet are you on??! RkOrToN 01:20, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Am going to close this disscusion because, its settled. RkOrToN 01:22, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Just to confirm something mentioned earlier. Home is being developed by SCEE at their London Studio, they were also behind PS2 hardware like Eyetoy and Singstar. - X201 (talk) 22:10, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to start this up again but I don't see how there was any dispute in the first place. Sony's OFFICIAL website calls the service "Home". Other websites call it "PlayStation Home" because "Home" by it's self is ambiguous and may cause confusion. Other websites could call it PlayStation Fairyland, it wouldn't make it it's name. The line should be changed back to how it was before the edit war started: "Home (known more practically as "PlayStation Home")". And dispite what RkOrton may think, uk.playstation.com is no less official than us.playstation.com. ChimpanzeeUK (talk) 09:07, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

OMG someone who agreed with me entirely exists! Its written now the way it is, despite the fact SCEE are developing it (making SCEE's page more reliable than SCEA), and the logo still saying home not PlayStation Home, SCEE's website hasn't been updated recently but SCEA's has and they were calling it PlayStation Home (that may be to do with them not developing it). The reason they changed it was because they were using the most recently updated page. Its best to leave it as it is for now. Wait until the next SCEE update Chocobogamer (talk) 10:09, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
I think this discussion also applies to the article's title. If the first line is changed to "Home", the title should probably be changed as well. In line with other Wikipedia articles on ambiguously named products (for example Java (programming language)), it should probably be changed to something like "Home (PlayStation Network service)". VG Cats Reference

Someone should add a reference section or something with a link to the VG Cats comic that pokes fun at Home by comparing it to Second Life. [[1]] —Preceding unsigned comment added by ArbiterX22 (talkcontribs) 23:12, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't really see why. It's not notable. Many people have made fun of Home!!ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 07:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I see why. Lots of articles have a "Cultural References" section. Regardless of it being critical or good, it wouldn't hurt to refer to it in the article.(Myscrnnm (talk) 02:56, 24 May 2008 (UTC))
I dont mind either way, but isn't 'cultural references' a form of a trivia section, which is discouraged? Chocobogamer (talk) 17:05, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
It's not notable. Should every article list every joke that's been made about its subject? No. Just think how long the George Bush article would be. - X201 (talk) 07:07, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Thats why trivia sections are discouraged, length and point.Chocobogamer (talk) 07:32, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Dress

Hi wiki's, i think it would be appropriate to add a dress section in the home page because dress is an expansion to home. use this as text for the article:

Dress is an expansion for the PlayStation Home service. It attempts to bridge the gap between real life fashion designers and the digital fashions that you make use of in the virtual Home world. Sony refers to it as a "premium avatar service." It's said to be made of four spaces in PlayStation's Home: Dress Town, Dress Studio, Dress Museum and Dress Park. Due to the fact that it is an expansion for PlayStation Home, it will be necessary to have an profile on Home.

Release date is wrong

"Sony is aiming for the initial download to be under 500MB. Home was announced at the Game Developers Conference on March 7, 2007[4] with a scheduled global public release in September or October 2007.[5]"

2007 is quite a while back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.194.18.31 (talk) 01:08, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi This is referencing the release date it was given when it was initially announced. The following paragraph goes on to talk about the numerous delays. There is a current release schedule (based on the only reliable sources people have found) nearer the bottom of the article. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 07:47, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Japanese Exclusive Beta?

The japanese playstation store has this Home Theme which, if downloaded, will qualify you for the Home Beta. I don't see how this works but i have a link to the page here: http://www.jp.playstation.com/ps3/home/info/news080731a.html. Just translate that page in Google Translate and you'll get the information that I just provided. And this is the Official site so it can't be wrong.--A. Rafey (talk) 03:30, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Phase 2 of Closed Beta?

The Japanese Exclusive Beta has been extended to other countries as well, including North America. All one has to do is again download a PS3 theme and enable it to be considered for participation. Here's the official announcement on the US Playstation Blog: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/08/07/want-into-the-playstation-home-closed-beta-test-heres-how-to-apply/ A. Reverting edits about rumor

I just reverted several good faith edits but was unable to give an edit summary because I was using popups. All of the informaiton added was based on a runmor, based on a comment from an unnamed source inside Sony. The edits appeared to present the information as fact. Wikipedia is not a fan site or news site and does not need to detail rumors like this. If it is later confirmed by Sony then obviously the information should be re-added. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 08:46, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Should the main logo be changed to the one used in the video here: http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=1109 . I would assume this is an official logo for the product and it would also help clarify the product's name as explained in the first sentence of the article. Can't seem to find a hi res version though. Don't really want to take a capture from the video. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 12:02, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

if we van get a decent one then defo, but don't remove the bit about it being referred/marketted as 'home' as it seems it still will be from what I've seen so far. Chocobogamer (talk) 12:59, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
put a screengrab cutout up, for now Chocobogamer (talk) 21:06, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I changed the logo back to the one used on http://homebetatrial.com as this is the only official logo I have ever seen used. (threespeech is semi-official) It has been used in all the press releases I have seen that have a picture describing home, all the trailers that have been released that I've seen, and it was used in the commercials that SCEA ran last holiday season in the United States. As far as I have been able to find out, there haven't been any new developments that make changing the logo a necessity. Thingg 15:13, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
official logo http://www.jp.playstation.com/ps3/home/. I have uploaded this logo for the main page and replaced the other one. Chocobogamer (talk) 15:28, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I have reverted it back to the original that is commonly known as the HOME logo until we have confirmation otherwise. Chocobogamer, the one you added was just the header from the website and the text was not necessessarily part of the logo. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 16:01, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I was the one that uploaded it. I won't revert it coz I don't want an edit war, however I will point out that if it was a header, it wouldn't have the (r) in it. That is almost certainly the logo, especially considering other articles on the PS Japan page. Its up to you if you revert it but its certainly not just a header.Chocobogamer (talk) 16:20, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I don't want an edit war either. I could see this turning into one so I thought I'd just put back the original until we can agree. I believe the one you uploaded has an (R) in it because Sony put and (R) whereever the word PLAYSTATION is used. I may be wrong but it's probably best to leave the known one up there until we see it on a press release or something. Sorry about the mistaken identity on who uploaded it. I read the edit history wrong. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 16:24, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah actually, you're right bout the (R) thing. and I don't want a petty EW so I didn't touch it. I pointed out that it was me just so that there arent problems here. Not for credit lol. I'd say leave as is then. Although, knowing SCEE (who are making it) itl be about 6 months before an official video comes out! ha. Chocobogamer (talk) 16:27, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
lol - well that's just it. I thought the one I originally referenced on threespeach was an official video. And as it had the new logo in it I thought that must be the official logo. It might be the same case as the website though: it's just the video's title, not the logo. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 16:31, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

(unindent) The reason I said that is the "official" logo because this is the logo I have seen being used in all the advertisements. While the image that I reverted to is not the same as this, it is on what is currently the only Sony website that is only related to Home. (http://homebetatrial.com) Thingg 16:43, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't mind which logo is used, I mean the house shape hasn't changed. And I believe almost 100%, that the logo I capped from the video to be genuine. It just baffles me that, even though SCEE has stuff about PlayStation Day on it, it doesn't have that video on there at all. And we all know for a fact that a video regarding Home was shown at the event. Chocobogamer (talk) 16:51, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree, I think the one you posted from the video, which I later uploaded a higher-res version of, is the/a official logo but to avoid disputes we might aswell leave it as is for the time being. Home will be out some time within the next 10 years and then we'll know for certain. It really doesn't do any harm to leave the current one there as any confustion over the name is cleared-up in the first line anyway. Thoughts? ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 17:23, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Thoughts... 10 years is a bit optimistic lol! Duke Nukem Forever, anyone? GT4 Mobile? lol. Yeah, I think, until Sony finally get off their rears and upload a video on their site or their official blog that contains the logo, leave as is. We all know that could be forever, after all London Studio don't even have their own website! Chocobogamer (talk) 17:36, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

The new logo used reflects the new official logo used for the Closed Beta version 1.0 (and onwards), and since it displays "PlayStation Home", the logo cannot be mistaken for another. Ffgamera (talk) 02:16, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Seasons

I changed "Fall" to "Third or Fourth quarter" for a couple of reasons. It is a form accepted by all versions of English (US/GB/AUS/INT), a particular season can mean various different time periods depending where you are on the globe (including not having seasons in the form that other countries know them), but most of all it is a neutral term, it is only quoted in the citation because the citation is written in US English, If I add the citation from Reuters should I change "Fall" to "Autumn"? . The edit wasn't made to be awkward it was made to be a compromise that would avoid any ambiguity and to be region neutral text. - X201 (talk) 08:24, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I think either way there could be confusion. "Fall" is obviously used in the US (and probably elsewhere) but would be know as "Autumn" to me. It's irritating that SCE seems to use vague terms like "fall" all the time but since that's all we have and that's what was in the press release that's what should be used. "Fall" is vague enough as it is but don't you think "Third or Fourth quarter" sounds even more so and a bit clumsy? Sorry, I wasn't trying to be awkward either but in the absence of a decent timeframe, I thought the term used in the official announcement should be the one used in the article. ChimpanzeeUK (talk) 10:11, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

In two days (or three, depending on time zone), the release date must be December 2008 (there are obviously no months after December in 2008). Unless of course they're delaying it again. Ffgamera (talk) 22:02, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

When it says that the initial download was aimed at 500MB, does that include the extra features as stated in the newly refurbished article? "Those rooms' download size is around 25-45mb each." or does it mean the 77mb? Because that is much lower than 500mb.Ffgamera (talk) 02:13, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

I also think that the virtual PlayStation Portable's replacement is called the Menu Pad. Revert the page if I'm wrong. Ffgamera (talk) 10:41, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

The room so far i downloaded is less than 50mb and that could change. Reserved space is 3gb for future rooms. The whole download is not huge. I thought a room would be like 1gb. It is not bad. It doesn't take a lot of time71.237.70.49 (talk) 23:47, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

PERIOD OF "EXSCLUSITIVATY"

Ok, now before I start this off let me apologize for typos I'm not the best speller. But anyway, I am a ps3 owner (obviously) and well I know a bit about Sony and their ways.

I can tell you right now they are working on Home as we speak and well, they are trying to fix the IXB or IMB server i don't really know what it's called but anyway they are fine tweaking this game to the maximum.

With that said while they get their final bunch of tweaks and add-ons to HOME

They are going to put PS3 users in a state of wonder which is called a state of "EXCLUCITAVITY" which is a fancy word for " we are not gonna give you a release date, we're not ready with it,,,,,, BUZZ OFF" so with my educated guess, I could probably see SONY giving out a release date sometime in May. And Home coming to your consoles at about at the earliest, June, I'd say it's more likely to be December, but I put it releasing around October.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Zdog513 (talkcontribs) 04:09, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't mean to be rude but I don't know what your point is? Do you mean "exclusivity"? Are you suggesting that Home will only be PS3 exclusive for a limited period? ChimpanzeeUK (talk) 10:16, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I made your spelling and grammar proper, so other people can read it... except for that word that resembles exclusivity. Hope I didn't change too much! Ffgamera (talk) 05:49, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Open Beta no longer Q4 2008, but December 2008.

November is almost up, and Sony hasn't said a release date nor released the Open Beta. In a few days (just to be certain), the page will need to reflect this. However, Sony is yet to properly announce a Q4 release. Ffgamera (talk) 21:53, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

I think TBD is more accurate as SCEE haven't actually decided when it will be released as it isn't finished yet. TBA implies that they know when it will be released but haven't announced it yet. Not that it really matters! ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 08:52, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
And how do you know whether Sony knows the release date or not? They could just be pulling everyone's legs like they did two years ago with the announced 2007 release, then the Spring 2008 release. It was changed to Fall 2008, and now it's December 2008 (because obviously there's no other months after December in 2008). Ffgamera (talk) 01:57, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Surely what you said reinforces the idea that they don't have a clue when it will be released? They've said that they don't know when exactly the open beta will launch as it depends on how the stress testing goes in the closed beta. This in turn must mean that they do not have a solid release date for the final version. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 08:17, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Even so, they may have a goal for a specific time period such as give or take 72 hours from December 15 (not saying that's the release date, it's just an example). It's too risky trying to guess what Sony is thinking is what I'm trying to say. My previous comment about their delays proves they mightn't have a clue, but it also proves that we can never guess Sony's next move. They are very spontaneous it would seem. Ffgamera (talk) 09:34, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Like you said, there's no way of knowing. It just seemed to me that TBD would be more likely/accurate. Like I said, it doesn't really matter. I'm not fussed. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 09:51, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
TBA could mean TBD... TBA means to be advised, so Sony may know or they may not know. 121.73.88.110 (talk) 06:28, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't really matter. Just leave it the way it is, I guess. Ffgamera (talk) 20:32, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Needs discussion of content in a developer context

There should be something in the article about the free SDK (they call it 'HDK') to allow developers to create content for Home. Just to update: Home has been taken down for Open Beta maintenance at 8:00am GMT time. 121.73.88.110 (talk) 08:38, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Current Version

Just changed the current version in the intro as it had not been changed earlier, however it now says: "The current version of Home is v1.03 and was released to "Closed Beta" testers on December 5, 2008" which I'm sure is incorrect as version 1.03 as released today (I think) does the intro need changing. I dont want to do too many changes in the intro as I'm not sure if the Version is for Open or Closed beta. Can someone else check this out and revert my edit if incorrect. Dark verdant (talk) 13:17, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Lol. It's incorrect because you changed it. v1.02 was released on the 5th December. 1.03 was released today. You updated the version number but not the date so it made the sentence inaccurate. I'll fix it now. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 13:46, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah my bad, I only noticed the date after I changed the version but didnt want to change the date in case the V1.03 was for open beta, thought it best to raise it rather than fuddling it up more. Thanks. Dark verdant (talk) 14:09, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
UPDATE: The Open Beta is NOT functional yet, only the update was posted for Closed Beta testers. http://community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/board/message?board.id=b_EN_PS3_Home&thread.id=58096 has updates on the progress. Update: Home is now fully functional. Ffgamera (talk) 08:18, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Not working in the US, stop saying it is working

This home is not working the US for sure. I don't know about europe or japan, but in the US this thing is broken. Don't say this is working, because I'm trying it and no good. Be patient and say it is not working, until everyone agrees that it is working. As of now, you can't log into Playstation Home. There is server error, timeout error, network error etc. happening right now. Onetwo1 (talk) 01:41, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Update: it is working now. Waiting when it will break again. I think they fixed it at least in the US. I'm downloading and logging into it. Onetwo1 (talk) 01:50, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Forums are not reliable sources of information. See WP:SELFPUB - X201 (talk) 09:11, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Because obviously no internet forum is filled with real people with real opinions about something.
People just need to attempt 2-6 times to log in. Occasionally, it takes longer. Nothing to complain about. Ffgamera (talk) 08:23, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
No, the parent is right. Initial reactions to Home, even from mainstream sources of gaming news/information like Penny Arcade, have not been kind [3], and they're not even referring to the server issues. There should be a "Reaction" section about this. Sloverlord (talk) 18:52, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
forums can be considered RS's on certain occasions, particularly over user responses. Criticism seems to be important on here, but at this stage, as its still beta, I'd be wary of using forums, and when its fully out, stick to SCE forums only. 19:42, 13 December 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chocobogamer (talkcontribs)
This is very petty, it's just people saying that it doesn't have much, when it's just a Beta. The criticism is directed at the Beta.

If a game like Metal Gear Solid 4 had a beta, and it had low functionality, it still wouldn't affect the final criticism (which was substantially good). In my opinion, we shouldn't put a reaction up for the beta.Ffgamera (talk) 09:44, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Unsourced nonsense

"People who enter each other's "home" (called a "HomeSpace") can stream the host's music and videos from their HDD. Videos are viewed via virtual Sony TVs, such as the BRAVIA. Photographs can be viewed via a virtual picture frame."

This should either be sourced or deleted. These are major features which simply do not exist at the present time. It sounds like it was written by Sony's marketing department. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.61.46.16 (talk) 19:54, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

I've rewritten it and it is now written in future-tense. "In time, people who enter each other's "home" (called a "HomeSpace") can stream the host's music and videos from their HDD. Videos will be able to be viewed via virtual Sony TVs, such as the BRAVIA. Photographs will be able to be viewed via a virtual picture frame." Ffgamera (talk) 04:44, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
There's a lot of language in the article which makes it sound like promotional material. Fantastical phrases like "a connected world" should be avoided. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 08:31, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Does "online" world sound better? Does bullet pointing count as sections? Ffgamera (talk) 09:11, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes. I like "online community" but that may not be descriptive enough. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 09:19, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
But, like, when the article states what Home users can do, we cannot say "online community". ie. Home users can make an apartment and explore an online world.
On another note, can you comment on the new format that I have made the article as? Ffgamera (talk) 09:29, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
It really should be in prose rather than bullet points. For example: "Home Square- This is Home's central plaza, where users commonly meet and chat..." should be changed to "The Home Square is Home's central plaza, where users commonly meet and chat...". Also, the whole article is in desperate need of citations. It currently contains a lot of original research. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 09:52, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
The bullet points have been removed, and the new style has been implemented. The article does need citations, however, most would be deemed unreliable. I can't cite my own console, after all. Nor can I cite reviews from game websites... Hopefully, when we get some reliable sources, we can get an article re-assessment. Ffgamera (talk) 09:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
You're right, you can't cite your own experience as a source, but there's no reason why you can't cite articles/reviews on gaming websites. For a list of websites considered reliable gaming-related sources, see WP:VG/RS. But even this is just a recommendation, you can cite any website as long as it meets the criteria in WP:RS. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 10:30, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
According to Sony, they scrapped the video viewing for the Beta, and they do not know whether it will be re-implemented in the full. The entire article used to be written in future tense, it is now written in present tense, such as the Trophy Room section which said that trophies may happen etc. However, some things that have not happened yet are left in future tense. Hopefully, when there are more citations, the article can gain a higher status. Ffgamera (talk) 02:44, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Engvar version

I can't find anything in the archive, but I'm sure we had a discussion on here, and reached a consensus, that the article should use British English because Home was designed and developed in the UK by Sony London and Sony Cambridge. - X201 (talk) 09:38, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

That rings a bell with me too. It makes sense to use British English. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 10:04, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Given the developers of Home and the fact that SCEE is running the show. Does anyone have any objections to British English being used? - X201 (talk) 14:24, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

No. Using British English is a good idea. On that SCEE subject, does anyone else find it strange that the American server has more functionality (at the moment) than the European server? I thought that SCEE ran the show. Ffgamera (talk) 08:25, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
IIRC I suggested this in one article (PS3's system software I think) once and some guy shot me down and said as its a spin-off from the main article it has to be in the same language as that. Then when I proved that wrong he said it had to be in American English as the guy who created the article wrote it in American English. I don't mind either way but you have to be aware some people will EW over it. Also on terms of functionality, just because London Studio and Studio Cambridge are creating it doesn't mean they are in charge of it, sadly, they are just employed to write the code. Like with the NXE, which was written by Rare, its fully under control by MGS USA. chocobogamer mine 12:23, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Articles tend to follow the version of English used by the first major contributor unless there is a valid reason for use of another version. The nationality of the company creating it is a valid reason. - X201 (talk) 14:31, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
To me, I don't care either way. I just know that a trend tends to exist, where, in a few months time some US-based fanboy of the console/Home will come along and start an EW over spelling. Is it really worth it for having a few Z's instead of S's and missing the U in colour? Being British I'm, and I'm sure you're all, used to it and we can all tell what the words are. chocobogamer mine 19:48, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Not just that, but trunk and boot are mixed around, along with vacation and holiday, etc. Ffgamera (talk) 08:44, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Timeline of Betas

The "timeline of betas" is not generally interesting. At most, it should be cropped out completely -- or at least, it should be trimmed back to only the few milestones that would be of general interest and converted from a bulleted list into paragraph style. Typically we don't document every release date of every version number moving forward. Thoughts? --guyzero | talk 06:19, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

I think just merging it all into paragraph style would be a bit better. (probably not all)121.73.88.110 (talk) 06:42, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Hopefully, the new format is to everyone's liking. I added dates to the Version history to make it not redundant. Ffgamera (talk) 12:16, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

WP:VG Article guidelines states in its "Inappropriate content" section that, "Exhaustive version histories: A list of every version/beta/patch of a game is inappropriate. Consider a summary of the game's development instead." And I agree with it and think that the list should be removed, the prose version is much better and already covers the release dates in enough detail. - X201 (talk) 12:29, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

I destroyed the version history, because the Updates section already covers it. There is a new "See Also" section that has links to the Mii page and the 360's avatars page. Ffgamera (talk) 06:21, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Final release

It isn't 2008. I can tell you that. The link says that the launch is in 2008, but Open Beta first. The proper interpretation is that Home will be released as an Open Beta in 2008, and the final release is after. Buser never said anything about a 2008 final release. The article doesnt quote that its a 2008 release, it only quotes what's in Home. Furthermore, they simply cannot fix all the bugs and place maximum functionality on Home within 16 days. If it took them 1.5 years to get to an Open Beta, why would it take 18 days (from open beta) to get to a full release? The misconception is the "this year" thing and "launch". The launch might mean the Open Beta. Ffgamera (talk) 09:33, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

you say this, but I'm very sus about this being a true beta, beta versions of new software often have a version number of 0.x, this is already on 1.x. Also, they probably have the next release ready, just QA'ing it, and are working on the version after that. They could be a lot closer than you think. Also open beta's are usually close to release, more like an RC. Remember, everyone connected to the internet gets a link to the software, most won't be aware of it still being in testing. Also, MGO was released as a beta just a matter of weeks before its release. chocobogamer mine 11:44, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Also 'final release' is the wrong term to use, its going to be constantly updated throughout its life, its just getting to the point of having a stable initial release. chocobogamer mine 11:49, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
My term was "full release", not "final release"... And you say "closer than I think", but remember: we do not put original research on articles. My comment was just to change TBA 2008 to TBA. Ffgamera (talk) 11:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, didn't see this before I changed it back to "Final release". However, this wording is better. As I said in the edit summary, a beta can be stable but it doesn't make it the final release. I accept what you say about it evolving over time but this is true of any product (opertating systems, games, software). The first non-beta release is still considered the "final release". Home won't be re-released every time new content is added. It will just be updated. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 11:39, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

So, what wording shall we settle on? Ffgamera (talk) 11:41, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Stable release?

So, when the F is the stable release going to be, then? This article doesn't say anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.15.27.134 (talk) 21:10, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

It never did say because it has never been announced. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 23:47, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
The previous source that said it was actually hinting to the Open Beta release. Depending on how well the testing goes, Sony may release a stable version sooner rather than later. Ffgamera (talk) 03:30, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Is Sony actually coming out with a stable version, or will it always be BETA, like all of Google's services? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.230.17.233 (talk) 06:19, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
There will be a stable release. Ffgamera (talk) 04:07, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Trophies

"The more Trophies a player has dictates which games they own and how skilled a player they are." This is a bad statement imho. For one, games can be borrowed or rented to get trophies. For another, getting Trophies doesnt have to mean skill. I am not too qualified in this area as I dont have a Ps3, but if they are like Xbox 360 achievements, then they just show what games you have played, and certain things you have accomplished in said games, no?--Ryudo (talk) 04:24, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

You're right, but this has been in the article for a very long time. I will change it.
Another thing: multiplatform games that have achievements AND trophies will name them exactly the same, except for the PS3 Platinum trophy of course. Ffgamera (talk) 09:53, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks to ChimpanzeeUK for deleting the trophies section. I thought it sounded a bit too detailed to be honest. Ffgamera (talk) 04:08, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Peer Review & Re-assessment

Hopefully, the article can get a Peer Review ASAP, then a re-assessment on the quality scale. The article hasn't got an assessment on the importance scale yet, so that should be interesting. Ffgamera (talk) 12:26, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Environment and Layout Section format changed to allow future info to be added

Does anyone else think that we should have different sections for the Environment/Layout section to eliminate the name OR have sub-sections under the Environment/Layout section? Or will the article become too detailed?

Any objections to the style I have implemented in the article, please state here. I have made it so the information of the content of Home is easier to navigate. I have also made it expandable.
Does anyone think that we should remove the Environment and layout title, to remove sub-sub sections? Ffgamera (talk) 07:56, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Communication and Additional information have swapped places, many other things are now written in present tense which I missed previously.
The Updates section no longer refers to the Closed Beta as if it were still happening. Ffgamera (talk) 12:05, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Voice chat

The wording that Jack Buser uses here http://community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/board/message?board.id=b_EN_PS3_Home&thread.id=97941 suggests that voice chat is still suspended in public areas. Ffgamera (talk) 22:01, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Reception?

I think this article should include an initial reception section on the open beta. 76.69.170.167 (talk) 23:46, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there should be, because the reception is towards the unfinished product. And yes, people may say that it will never be finished, but there is a stage when it is considered "finished". So, we should just have a reception area for the full version. Ffgamera (talk) 02:17, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
But it's a public-release beta similar to gmail, which DOES have a criticisms section http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Gmail#Criticisms. As long as the criticisms are notable and can be authenticated by reliable sources, I don't follow your logic. A parallel may be drawn with the unfinished symphonies of many composers - whether in their final form or not, they are publicly available, and have had real critical analysis done on them. 129.61.46.16 (talk) 19:25, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
My logic is that people are complaining over something in testing stages. Don't people usually do this? Otherwise it wouldn't be a beta? Ffgamera (talk) 23:47, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
FFgamera, this isn't a normal beta like with Firefox, Internet Explorer 8 or Live Messenger 2009, where you have to go to a specific place to get it, not the normal place, this is one that Sony want people to get now, I believe they have the link in all online, updated consoles to the download now its on open beta (I got it in closed beta so i cant confirm this), but in that sense, they should expect and receive public criticism. gamecentral from UK reviewed it today [4] and absolutely slated it. Reviews will start coming in now, regardless of its current state, therefore a crit section should be started now not after the initial 'formal' release chocobogamer mine 00:01, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Just make sure it sounds professional, and not attacking PlayStation Home. One reason is because, i personally enjoy this service to a high extent. 121.73.88.110 (talk) 03:46, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Ooops, i forgot to login there.
Make sure to put in professionally done reviews, and not just petty fan-based reviews that just have personal attacks to Sony and Home. Ffgamera (talk) 03:52, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't see any problem with including reviews, as long as it's balanced, WP:NPOV and free of original research or non-professional reviews. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 08:45, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Due to the ever expanding nature of Home I think we need to handle it differently to game reviews. Any reviews should make clear what version of the software and on what date they are reviewing it. Whilst a particular review might be valid when it was written, it may become outdated after a certain period of time or further development of the software. - X201 (talk) 09:07, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

I also think it's important to note if possible, which version of Home they are commenting on in terms of PSN region. Currently, the North American version of Home has a lot more features than the European version. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 09:13, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
That is true, but we cannot shift them all, because most of the reviews are just blurted out from fan reaction and we have no idea what region theyre from, no constructive criticism, just simple hate.
On another note, Update 1.04 will be available at 2pm GMT (give or take a few minutes). http://community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/board/message?board.id=b_EN_PS3_Home&thread.id=86441 Ffgamera (talk) 09:48, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

My fears of someone adding biased and unrelated reviews came true... luckily it was reverted almost instantly. And why was it added to the Communication section or something like that??? Anyways, do we need more on this section or leave it as it is for now?Ffgamera (talk) 06:24, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

We need to make sure that any information that's added is properly cited, balanced, and from reliable sources. It seems that most people either love it or hate it so I think stating any summary along the lines of "Home has received generally favourable/negative reviews" is a bit pointless. We also can't include any user scores, only professional ones. We have no way of knowing when these scores were submitted and therefore no way of knowing if they are still valid. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 09:25, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, it's impossible sorry. No professional reviews have been done on Home. Unless I'm missing something. Home Open Beta is not reviewed because it's a beta. Only the fans do it. Give the reviewers some time. Ffgamera (talk) 11:20, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't have to be a "review" per se. The gaming websites published several articles last week when the open beta was released and gave their views on the service. I doubt they will actually review Home because it's not a game, it's a service. If however this does prove difficult to find, that would suggest that we probably shouldn't have a Reception section yet. LittleBigPlanet's user score on Metacritic is a prime example of why user-generated scores can't be used. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 11:32, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
I thought so, the article isn't ready for a Reception section yet... But by the time Reception is ready, the Open Beta will have been upgraded. I'm all out of ideas. Can anyone help get some reviews? Ffgamera (talk) 04:08, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Home is an open beta - if you make a product available to the public, you are, with no exceptions, leaving it open for criticism. I don't think that's up for debate. As for this, we should cover its entire reception. Do we not cover an online game's reception because it got a patch fixing all the problems a year later? - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 06:29, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
I agree, but we simply cannot find any reviews that meet the guidelines. Three times so far, people have tried to add a Receptions section, only to be deleted because it violated the guidelines. Ffgamera (talk) 11:26, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Like I said, it doesn't need to be a "review". I think all the major gaming websites published articles when Home went into open beta. There are probably comments in these articles which can be used to gauge it's reception. A recent article on one of the sites (can't find it now) compared the versions of home in North America, Europe and Japan and summarised that each one showed potential but it was obvious that there was still work to be done. This is the sort of thing that can be used. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 23:35, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
I can't find any like that. I've been doing lots of exploring. Ffgamera (talk) 06:51, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Here are my two pennies. Eurogamer have released a short, but scathing review on Home.[5] They are a professional publication, with such talent as Kieron Gillen and other British PC Gamer writers. It's a start, at least.
Oh and about that article comparing the regional differences, you can find that at IGN.[6] They also have their own opinion on the beta.[7] -Skorpus McGee (talk) 22:31, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Avatar section

I added an Avatar section, because I feel that it is important for people who come to the article and want to have knowledge on Home's avatar creation. Also for people who want to compare the Miis, 360 Avatars and Home Avatars. They can't do that if there's nothing about the Avatar. Ffgamera (talk) 03:09, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

That's a good idea, in my opinion, people should have the knowledge on Home's avatar creation so if they do want to compare the Mii's and 360's Avatars with Home's Avatars. Do you think we should add that users can change the appearance of their avatar anywhere in Home and not just in their personal spaces? JDC808 (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I think we should.. but not in an advertising way.. heh heh. Anyways, people can also compare Home avatars to Sims if they want. Ffgamera (talk) 01:35, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Trailers

I've removed the section about the specific trailers that are showing in the theatres. They fall foul of WP:NOTDIR item 3. - X201 (talk) 09:11, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Too detailed

I've been having another look through the article and have noticed that there's a lot of clarification on what's available in Home in different regions. The numerous "(only in North America)" and "(in the European version)" bracketed bits are making it sound a little clumsy and making it difficult to read and I think it's unnecessary. I'd suggest that in most cases, if this clarification is required, the section is too specific for a Wikipedia article anyway. For example:

The Home Theatre is a virtual cinema which will screen films that have been released on DVD/Blu-ray, the seating areas containing other Home users can be seen (except in European Home) and the screen is viewable. There will be an option to select full screen mode so the content playing will appear the same as any other video/movie played from the PS3. The current full screen mode, however, shows the frames of the screen. The Mainland Asian Theatre has a lobby with a video screen and two Theatre Auditoriums for trailers. The Japanese Theatre has a two-story lobby with a video screen and four Theatre Auditoriums (two on each floor) for trailers. The European Theatre has a two-story lobby with a video screen on the first floor, film posters on both floors, and ten theatres for different trailers on the first floor. The North American Theatre has no lobby and one theatre. Currently, the theatres, or theatre in North Americas case, show a mix of content but the majority show film trailers.

This is far to detailed and I think it falls within the realms of a game guide. I think it would be much better and more encyclopaedic to compress it down into something like this:

The Home Theatre is a virtual cinema where users can view a range of video content. This content includes movie and game trailers and video game features from third party publishers such as Eurogamer. Videos are displayed in the 3D environment on virtual video screens which the user can walk up to to view full screen. In contrast to the trailers available on the PlayStation Store, the dynamic video content in Home is presented in standard definition.

I suggest a rule of thumb whereby you try to avoid getting so detailed that it requires you to add these caveats. Do other people agree? ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 10:29, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Agreed Dark verdant (talk) 10:34, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
The new version is a lot easier to read and covers the subject in enough detail. Only one minor thing to point out, the word "movie". WP:FILM have reached a consensus to not use the word movie to disambiguate names, and in general they appear to prefer the use of the nationality neutral film over the US derived movie. - X201 (talk) 10:50, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Really? That's good. I don't like "movie" myself to be honest. Just seemed to be the most popular term. Thanks for letting me know. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 11:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I agree, but I also disagree, it is detailed, but for good reason, like for instance of the GameSpaces, not every region has them and they aren't the same at the two regions that do have them, so just saying that there is GameSpaces and not clarifying which region has them would make someone who doesn't know of the other regions content assume that every region has these GameSpaces that are listed in the article. Also, Chimpanzee, you took out the part mentioning that there are four different versions of Home and what they are, I think it's kind of important to let someone who doesn't know about Home, to let them know that there is four different versions, instead of just saying names of different regions are different. We could go as far as making a Wikipedia for each version of Home, but just putting them in this article would be much simpler.JDC808 (talk) 20:11, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

But it's not the place of Wikipedia to provide such detailed information. I agree that it should be mentioned somewhere that there are different versions in different regions, bot noting every difference isn't encyclopaedic. This kind of analysis is more suited to gaming and fan sites. I'm not trying to suggest that the article should be vague, far from it. But I'm saying that listing minor differences between the different versions of Home isn't useful to the average reader. This stuff matters to you an me becuause we're gaming enthusiasts (I assume), but not to most people. The people this stuff does matter to are the sorts of people who would know where to look for more detailed information, or if they don't, can access the citation links for further details. Sorry to reference this old chestnut again, but Wikipedia shouldn't be a guide. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 22:03, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
I believe you meant to link WP:NOT or specifically WP:NOTGUIDE. I don't link it to be picky, just in case someone needs to see the standard for himself/herself. I agree completely on your point. CamannTALK 16:04, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Whoops! You're right. Fixed it now. Thanks. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 16:13, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
The detail gets to the point where we have to update the article daily as if it were a news article. Luckily, it is now changed. To add another thing: I have renamed "Second-party & Third-party content" to simply "Third-party content". Because we have already mixed some Second-party info into the Sony Computer Entertainment section. Thanks for all of your hard work and contribution. In formal writing, film is more appropriate to use. Is the new article to your liking? Or shall we continue to compress it? Ffgamera (talk) 21:38, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Good point. I think that's another thing that's another thing that will alert you to an over-detailed article. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 16:13, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, for example, this Thursday, Europe & PAL gets one/two of USA's Far Cry 2 Spaces or an entirely new Far Cry 2 Space. Won't add this into the article, cos we removed the region differences with GameSpaces. Ffgamera (talk) 00:26, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Recent edits

The location names are on the World map, please don't change it to suit your liking, because that is what Sony named the locations. Home Square is called "Home Square" "Shopping Centre" is called "Shopping Centre" I'm not sure whether we should go for American English or British English, but if you do change some of it, make sure you change the entire article And the article doesn't need detail on what is on the video screens. Thanks. Ffgamera (talk) 08:50, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

I have now found out that the Shopping Centre is indeed called the Mall in NA, and the Home Square is indeed called the Central Plaza in NA. For some reason, Sony decided to name them differently for different regions. Ffgamera (talk) 10:03, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

I have a question about a recent edit. In the section "History of the Home Beta" there was a reference made to a website with the References title PlayStation®Home is coming to Asia with Closed Beta Test to be launched soon!. It links to an IP address, not a domain (http://220.232.130.120/psn_recruit/). Is this a legit site? Zef (talk) 04:42, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, yes, because it is redirected from http://asia.playstation.com/psn_recruit/index.php which is an official PlayStation website. Ffgamera (talk) 08:42, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

It is easier to read now and it also looks better, good idea. --JDC808 (talk) 04:07, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

I put a note at the beginning of the World Map section saying that whenever just Asia or Asian is used throughout the World Map section, it is referring to both Mainland Asia and Japan, that way we don't have to go through the article and change all the places it says Asia or Asian to either Mainland Asia or Japan or both. Pretty much it's saving space.--JDC808 (talk) 19:46, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

I just wanted to point out the Updates that are recieved in Home from the Update Manager go outside the straight forward administrative updates to include what seems like a sub game or an ARG. Events section

Right now, I'm not seeing a problem with it, but over time with the addition of new events we'll probably want to either list them, put them in an info box, or just summarize them into one or two paragraphs. Personally I like the info box idea the best because we could put the name of the event, brief description of it, if it's a recurring event (being either weekly, monthly, etc.), and which regions it was available for. I'm not saying go change it now, I'm saying change it when it comes to the point where there's like 10 paragraphs or so. What's your thoughts? JDC808 (talk) 22:42, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Here's an example of what I mean (in the real thing the cites will be there; need to find out a little more about the UFO event):

Events in Home

Event Description Recurring Region Prizes Start/End Date
Resident Evil: Degeneration Trivia Contest Users answered the eight questions that were posted on a video screen in Central Plaza in the Official PlayStation Home Forum. Users then tell Nabichu and have only 60 seconds to indicate the quantity by doing gestures. n/a Japan A Nabichu statue n/a

JDC808 (talk) 20:54, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

To be honest I think the whole "Events" section should go, save for a couple of example events. Listing every event that ever happens in/on Home will steer it into a head on crash with WP:NOT. I can think of 3 policy rules that we're in danger of breaking as it stands. The section needs a brief explanation of a couple of example events at max. - X201 (talk) 22:52, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
I have seen other Wikipedia pages with this almost exact kind of thing. It doesn't seem to be a problem with those pages. JDC808 (talk) 23:07, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
It wouldn't work. The PlayStation Home article's events section was originally intended to have proper large-scale events, rather than things like contests, which aren't really "events". What I'm trying to say is that I think we've misinterpreted the definition of "event" Ffgamera (talk) 09:26, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree. I think "Events" should cover things like the promised Concerts and Special Appearances or something like Jummy Carr's stand-up routine on Second Life. We shouldn't be listing fan made forum content. - X201 (talk) 09:48, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I must correct you there X201, these are not fan made forum events. These events were made by Sony's PlayStation Home Managers, except "Home Quiz Night", that one was a fan made event. I see what Ffgamera is talking about with misinterpreting the events, but these are events in Home none the less. Sense you two are basically going against this idea, I suggest we at least mention that there are these kinds of events and name one or two of them, and the one we probably should name is the "12 Games of Christmas" since it's an annual event. How about that? Also I want to mention that some areas, including this one, will almost always be getting changed, not necessarily everyday, but I'm just saying Home will technically never be complete for Home will always be evolving, for instance one section may be small now but in five or ten years it could be about 10 paragraphs long with all the new content that they will be adding over the years. Okay, the 10 paragraphs was a little exaggerating but I think you see what I mean. JDC808 (talk) 13:58, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I'll join in here! That seems like a good idea. I don't think anyone's saying that the fact that events are/will be held in Home shouldn't be mentioned, but adding a complete list off all of them would be inappropriate. Simply saying that events are held is sufficient, and giving one or two examples of these events would be useful to help the reader understand the nature of them. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 14:14, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I went ahead and edited the section so only one paragraph mentions about these events and I gave a couple of examples, the "12 Games of Christmas" and "Name the New Home Space" events. I felt these two would be the best to mention since the '"12 Games of Christmas" is an annual event and "Name the New Home Space" was important since it delt with a new Home Space for North America. JDC808 (talk) 17:41, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

My definition of "events" is if an occurrence is labeled as event by SCE, or it is held at the PlayStation Events Space. Ffgamera (talk) 10:38, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Idea for the Game Spaces

This occurred to me a couple or so days ago. This year, Home is going to be bringing out more and more Game Spaces including the years to come. So I was thinking that we could add a section specifically for the Game Spaces. It could go between SCE content and third party content, or it could go right after third party content. I think this would be a much easier way to tell about the Game Spaces then the way we have it now where a couple or so are at the bottom of SCE content and the others are just thrown into the third party content. I think the third party content should just be for developer and company spaces. How do you feel about that? JDC808 (talk) 1:12, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

i second this. it would be a good idea, as many third party companies are going to make game spaces, like ea for example, while SCE is also going to make game spaces, like for example a pain game space. Estemshorn (talk) 20:42, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
When the Game Space list gets moderately big. Since it's too small, we can't have this. And when the Game Space list is too big, we can't have it either, due to clutter. So, about 10 or so would be able to fit. Ffgamera (talk) 03:30, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Whenever the Game Spaces section gets too big, I'm going to make a Wikipedia page just for them titled "List of PlayStation Home Game Spaces". I'll just keep a couple of Game Spaces in the section on this page, probably Uncharted and Far Cry 2 since they were first. Third Party Developer Spaces won't need it for awhile since there's only two, well three including EA. I'll probably do this when a few more spaces are added. JDC808 (talk) 15:13, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

I've made an article just for the game spaces called List of PlayStation Home Game Spaces. The Game Spaces section was starting to get cluttered. JDC808 (talk) 02:50, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Xi

When this Xi stuff gets figured out, do you think we should add a small bit about it in the article? JDC808 (talk) 13:20, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

This is just speculation at the moment, although the thread that explains the Xi fiasco was floated by an admin, so it must be important. Once this speculation clears and becomes a bit more vivid, we can add something related to it. Definitely, as long as it's not in rumour stages. It has to be completely out of rumour stages. Ffgamera (talk) 08:11, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
It's getting closer to out of rumor stage to, especially with the addition of the Teleport to the EU Home Square which is the Xi symbol. Can't wait till this thing actually gets figured out and see what it has for Home. JDC808 (talk) 15:27, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

The RE5 restricted areas are open in the Asian and Japanese Home. They will be open to the European and North American Home on the next publishing window, which is either this Thursday or next. April 2009 Updates

April 2, 2009:

  • Ten new songs have been added to Listen@Home. As an April Fools joke on April 1, the North American Home Managers put only the song "Chain Swing" by Animal House. The joke is that a majority of the Home users are sick and tired of that song because it was played constantly before the 50 Cent songs were added. Also last Friday, they had put four or five songs from Street Fighter IV.

April 9, 2009:

  • The Hub has been updated, users get a male/female Xi shirt for completing the 6th quest.
  • New clothes and items have been added to Threads and Furniture store.
  • Resident Evil 5 restricted areas open for North America. The RE5/BH5 Archives is still closed for all regions. Non owners of the game can play the "BSAA Training Mission". Europe restricted areas are still closed.

  • Godfather II game space for North America. Users can play a game of "No Limit Texas Hold'em" on five poker tables and check out promotional video and concept art.
  • Home Cafe for Asia and Japan has been temporarily closed as they are planning for the next event.
  • "Ward of Despair" room has opened in Asias Siren Lounge.
  • Asias theatre has been updated and now is two stories and has four theatres and there is a Home Theatre Survey Corner but users can only participate in it during the event period.

Only the countries listed in Europe and aren't geographically in Europe are notable. The rest are quite obvious if I do say so myself. Ffgamera - My page! | Talk to me! | Contribs 10:06, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, completely understandable, but hey, if anyone asks and aren't sure, you now know for sure. It's kind of funny, though, that the smallest Home has the most countries that access it. JDC808 (talk) 01:34, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
That's one of the arguments against SCEE towards lack of Home content in the past. But that is now reassured. Ffgamera - My page! | Talk to me! | Contribs 01:17, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

History section

Hope nobody minds, but I've been itching to do it for ages:
I fused the History and History of the Home Beta section together, because the two share pretty much the same information. This new section is where the old history section was. Ffgamera - My page! | Talk to me! | Contribs 10:05, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, it looks better. JDC808 (talk) 01:35, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

European Home

SCEE will be focusing more on getting more spaces available for the European Home due to the European Home being behind in the amount of spaces it offers to its users. This will include the Uncharted space, the Warhawk space, and an update to the Resident Evil 5 space, as well as some of the recent spaces like the Guitar Hero space as well as some new spaces. The SCEE Home Producer is currently investigating 17 spaces in all but TedTheDog, European Home Manager, doesn't believe all would be suitable and therefore not all would be published for the European Home. The timeline for this is probably about the next 2 to 4 months and there is likely to be a drop in output before it starts to really pick up and improve. June 10, 2009:

  • The end of Xi. The big brown door called the monolith has now opened but the users can only pass through if they have obtained all 24 fragments. Once they have all 24 fragments they can pass through and a message will appear on their screen that says: "This is the point of no return. Once you pass this point, you will not be able to come back again. Are you sure you want to proceed?" And a question is asked: "Do you want to continue?" and users can either choose, "Yes. I'm ready to finish what I started." or "No. Take me back to the hub for now." If they choose Yes, then they are prompted with another question "Are you sure? This is strictly a one-way journy..." and the answers to choose are "Yes." or "No. Take me back to the hub." If users choose yes they are taken to a space called "The White Hall" with the description being "The begtinning of the end, or the end of the beginning?" but before they enter the space they must choose to "Release Xi" or "Destroy Xi". After choosing, a video will then play regarding the decision they have made. After the vido they are then taken to The White Hall to be greeted by Jess. After Jess talks to the user, they are then rewarded an Xi Trophy, and Xi Fragment Trophy, and if they obtained all the butterflies and Xi Butterfly Trophy. They are then returned to the central meeting point.
  • After completing Xi, if users try to return to The Hub, they will be returned to the central meeting point. But if they try to access it through the Teleport, they will be taken to the Xi Alumni Hub which is for all of those that have completed Xi. The Xi Alumni Hub looks similar to The Hub with a couple of differences. When they first enter the Xi Alumni Hub, there will be a table at the top of the stairs with a piece of paper on it. The What's New screen now shows the logo of Xi and is now called the "View Xi slideshow" which is a quick run through of the highlights of Xi which ran for 12 weeks. HoloPAD is no longer accessible. Online Getaway is now Alumni Hub Getaway and has Web Browser, Xi Credits, and Miguel's Blog. View weekly re-cap screen is now "View video" showing how Xi started and what happened over time revealing that Xi was really to bring people together. Users can also go back to Alpha Zone 1 - Game Test Area as well as the Maximum-Tilt Lobby and Adventure Lobby, but those are the only Alpha Zones they can return to. There is also another mini-quest for the users to do in the Xi Alumni Hub. In doing this mini-quest, Alumni Puzzle Site will appear on the Alumni Hub Getaway if the users have done what was necessary to access it. After figuring out the puzzle, users must go to the Keypad by the Xi Alumni Hub entrance but it is currently not working and being fixed. If any user has favorited the other Xi spaces, not including The Hub, they can still access them.

Xi having it's own Wikipedia page

I have been thinking about this for the past few weeks, and I was wondering do any of you think that we should make a Wikipedia page for Xi? It is a game, an alternate reality game to be exact, and when it's over which is very soon, we will probably be able to gather enough information to make the page. I could actually do it right now, but I'm not entirely sure if I should or just leave it as it is in the PlayStation Home page here. What do you guys think? JDC808 (talk) 00:39, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I think that it should be made into a separate page as well. It's a whole different game inside of Home. Xi (Game) needs to be made! ESTEMSHORNtalkSign 06:05, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
If it were to be made, it will be Xi (PlayStation Home), because Xi (video game) is already an article. I am neutral on this one, unless:
The name of the article could either be that or Xi (Alternate Reality Game). We'll have to see what happens with in the next week because the game of Xi has ended but there's something more in the Xi Alumni Hub, so we'll have to see how far that goes. JDC808 (talk) 03:29, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

I agree that Xi (Alternate Reality Game) should be a separate page. As the game developed, it clearly expanded beyond Home and into real life and onto the wider web - so having it as a subcategory of Home seems inaccurate. Also, the Xi section is already pretty long in itself, and there are omissions & errors that would be much easier to deal with on a standalone page. It could use some images too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thewritingstudio (talkcontribs) 07:53, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Good point, I have also felt that, which is one of the reasons why I brought up the proposal to make it a separate page. I'll let a couple more people express their opinion on if it should or shouldn't be made a page. So far pretty much everyone thinks it should be made well Ffgamera is neutral on it but if majority rules, I don't think he'll mind it becoming it's own page. JDC808 (talk) 18:03, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Just letting you guys know, I have the page typed up and saved in a Word document, so if this things a go, then all I have to do is click on the red link here, and copy & paste the Word document I have. JDC808 (talk) 07:25, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Just to let you know, I support it now. I was just not sure about guidelines, but as long as the page isn't too small, it should work out very well! Keep up the good work, and let me know when you've made the page. Ffgamera - My page! | Talk to me! | Contribs 12:54, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay, that sounds good, I can understand where your coming from with the guidelines. I'll go ahead and make the page, hope it's not too detailed. One thing I did forget was to give info on each of the groups that were formed or already formed during Xi, for example the AlphaAFK group. I have some mention of them, but not a whole lot. I'll make the page as Xi (Alternate Reality Game) and make a redirect for it as Xi (PlayStation Home). JDC808 (talk) 18:58, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

problem with the playstationhome connection

i have a problem with the connection to home it is loading and stop to load and blok my ps3 help me please 80.185.207.158 (talk) 15:33, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

This has happened to a few people, the cause could just be connection problems to the internet during the time you were loading Home, or for some reason your PS3 just messed up when loading Home and froze. I'm a frequent user on the North American Home forums and I've seen this problem come across the boards but not exactly a solution from any of the SCEA Home managers or developers. The only responses I've seen is from forum users who have had this happen to them and they said what worked for them is to either A.) turn off your PS3 and try again, or B.) disable the Media Center because that can cause loading problems. To disable the Media Center, go to Network Settings then scroll down to Media Server Connection (which is the very last one) and disable it. If I find anything else regarding this, I'll let you know. Geographical mistake

{{editsemiprotected}} Under the Public Spaces section, there's a geographical mistake within "Countries that join Europe are Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia,.."
Portugal is both an European Union country and is located inside the European continent, so automaticaly is linked to the European HOME Space. The text should read "Countries that join Europe are Australia, New Zealand, Russia,.."

"Ready" for B Class?

The article has gone a long way since the peer review, but as it has, I have been wondering whether it is a high enough standard for a higher rating. The peer review should be useful in making that judgement. Thanks. Ffgamera - My page! | Talk to me! | Contribs 07:25, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Non Gaming Spaces

Just thought I'd mention there is an Audi Home space in the works. I don't know if you need more substantive things like screenshots or something other than Sony's word that it's coming with no date as to when. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.252.29.168 (talk) 03:37, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry didn't know about the signing of the comment 72.252.29.168 (talk) 03:47, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I heard about that. Thanks for mentioning this. I would have probably forgotten about their space until it was close to it's release. I'm going to search for a source to use for it so I don't add it to the page without a source. Oh and about the signing thing, you should sign up for Wikipedia, it's free, and it lets you edit pages and make it much easier to contact other Wikipedia editors and as well as them contacting you and then when you sign on the talk pages, all you have to do type ~~~~ and it does an automated signature for you so you don't have to type out everything. Suggestions for improved formatting

I'm new here, so I'm not sure if this is the proper way to go about this or not, but I have some suggestions for improving the layout of the article.

First, I'd recommend splitting the discussion of Apartments and Clubs in to their own sections, because while they're both types of Personal Spaces, they're fairly distinct entities. Also, I'd recommend moving the entire Public Spaces section under the Features heading. It just makes more sense to discuss them in the same section as Personal Spaces.

Within the Public Spaces entries, I'd also rearrange things a bit. The title of section 4.1, "Sony Computer Entertainment content," is a bit misleading/confusing in my opinion, as SCE creates other content, such as Game Spaces for SCE-published games. I think a better title for this section would be "Core Spaces," as that's the terminology that Sony use to describe them. I would also merge the "Third-party content" section in to the "Game Spaces" section, as they actually are Game Spaces, just made by companies other than SCE. SCE-created Game Spaces and 3rd-party-created Game Spaces could be given their own subsections, but I feel that both should be lumped under the general heading of Game Spaces. While Xi is also technically a Game Space, it's a fairly unique beast that was played throughout the Core Spaces in addition to its own spaces, and is probably therefore deserving of its own section in the article.

So to sum up, this is what I would like to see…

2 Features

2.1 Avatar
2.2 Personal Spaces
2.2.1 Apartments
2.2.2 Clubs
2.2.3 Stage Sets
2.3 Public Spaces
2.3.1 Core Spaces
2.3.2 Game Spaces //Fold "Third-party content" in to this section
2.3.3 Xi
2.4 Game Launching

Thanks for listening.

Serversurfer (talk) 00:27, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Apartments and Clubs can be split, that's not a problem. I'm not sure about the moving of the public spaces part. I'll let someone else elaborate on that.
By game spaces, we're meaning spaces that are specifically dedicated to games. Like the Resistance Station is for the game Resistance 2. As to where the Red Bull space is not for a game, it's for a company. That's what we're meaning by game spaces, not the space has a game in it, but it's for a specific game. That's also why we have separate sections for "Game Spaces" and "Third Party Content". Now changing "Sony Computer Entertainment content" to "Core Spaces" seems alright to me. That does make sense. With Xi, yeah it does deserve it's own section, especially since it was the first alternate reality game based on a console and more specifically in Home.
Thanks for the input. We'll see what we can do. JDC808 (talk) 20:25, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for responding. ^^
I'm not sure about the moving of the public spaces part. I'll let someone else elaborate on that.
It just seems to me that they're basically the same as Personal Spaces, just public instead of private, so either both are "features" of the platform, or neither are. I mean, I guess that technically, Events are another "feature" of Home, but it just seems odd to me to have Personal Spaces be a sub-category of Features, while Public Space are treated as something wholly separate from everything else. Whether they're both Features or not (and I feel they are), at the very least I think they should both live at the same level of the article.
By game spaces, we're meaning spaces that are for specifically dedicated to games.
Ah, I see what you're saying. I guess I was just confused by the "Third-party content" title, as there are game spaces made by 1st, 2nd, and 3rd parties, and there's nothing stopping Sony from building a space that's not tied to a specific game, but also not necessarily a Core Space either, like a space promoting PSN games. Maybe that section should be titled "Other Spaces" or something like that? Really though, I don't see any fundamental difference between a "Game Space" and an "Other Space." At the most basic level, both are places to hang out, socialize, and be advertised to. Functionally, there's no difference in the two; they're all "just another space." The only difference is the category of thing being advertised. It's like saying that a blue room is entirely different from a red room; they're really the same thing, and the only difference is how they were decorated. In fact, the thread I linked earlier would seem to imply that anything that's not a Core Space is considered a Game Space, even if it's not advertising a specific game. We could call them Game Spaces and Brand Spaces, though again, they're not necessarily restricted to being either one of those. I think that's why Sony just refer to them collectively as Game Spaces, regardless of the actual content. Serversurfer (talk) 21:33, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
I've done some moving around of sections. Tell me what you think. JDC808 (talk) 03:24, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Much better, in my opinion. My only question at this point is, if Avatars and Personal Spaces are considered "features" of the platform, then why aren't Public Spaces and Game Launching also features? Whether considered "features" or not, I really do think all four should exist at the same level of the article; Private Spaces and Public Spaces are virtually the same thing, after all, only differing in who can access and modify them. I also think Xi should probably be lumped in under Public Spaces somewhere, since that's sort of what it is. (Or was it more of an "event"?) Serversurfer (talk) 05:27, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
I get what you're saying here and it makes sense. I'll think of something that we could do to solve this little dilemma. Xi was more of an event, actually it was a game, alternate reality game to be exact, that was based in Home. It just had spaces that went along with it, which you can see are no longer available except for the Xi Alumni Hub and Alpha Zone 1. JDC808 (talk) 15:12, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
Okay, what I've done is renamed the section "Features" to "Avatar and Personal Spaces", since that section only mentions avatars and personal spaces. JDC808 (talk) 03:32, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Works for me. Thanks. ^^ Serversurfer (talk) 01:17, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

I was told once (way back when I first started editing the Home article) that sub-sub-subtitles are discouraged, so don't go too overboard hahaha. Ffgamera - My page! | Talk to me! | Contribs 10:18, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Sony Shows PlayStation Home Virtual Pet at CEDEC

Found this in the North American Home boards, here's the article itself Sony Shows PlayStation Home Virtual Pet at CEDEC. I've copied and pasted the important stuff.

"For CEDEC 2009, two Sony presentations in particular had the potential for sneak peaks at future PlayStation brand developments: a session on motion controls, and a session on PlayStation Home.

As a glimpse of what's to come for the service, Kando said that a future update will allow users to load up the PlayStation Store directly from Home. This, he said, will allow you to do such things as download demos from PlayStation Home via PlayStation Store and play online with friends.

The presentation also offered a look at a variety of Home technology demos. One demo focused on synchronized playback of multimedia content. The player was able to access a virtual media player whose menu contained listings for real net radio and pod casts. Additionally, the player's virtual Bravia set was made to show commercials. In both instances, users were able to enjoy the content with their friends.

Another demo, which was developed in five days, showed a cute (?) pet robot walking about a player's room. The player could scold the robot to make it calm down (and then get angry), call out to the robot to make it come close, and do other activities that one might do with a pet. Kando pointed out that this system allows for single players to enjoy themselves and does not require a keyboard. Additionally, the robot could be used to offer pertinent information to the user.

In the original Famitsu.com article, you can see the pet robot midway through the page. It looks like an old television set. One of the images shows the robot switching between smiling and frowning, with text noting that the robot's reaction can change depending on the user's current situation.

Both of these demonstrations were just tech demos. There's no guarantee that they will make it into the future PlayStation Home experience. But synchronized media playback and virtual pets sound like a natural fit for Home, so we can probably expect to see them in an update down the road."

Break the updates into list in new page

Maybe there should be a specific update page with the listed updates like the PlayStation 3 system software page. That way it would be easier to understand and read all the updates by list. What do you think?97.124.247.107 (talk)

I disagree, there is no need, as it is an online game networking service and is in beta. The PlayStation 3 System Software article is a necessity, as it reflects on specific features of the PS3. PlayStation Home is a world, which is difficult to define specific features, and trying to do so would not be productive. Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 07:08, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

World map image

Curious problem. I uploaded a new version of the world map image last night but for me, it's not been updated in the article. It displays the correct image when I go to the image page but in the article, the previous version is still being shown. I've cleared my cache and so on but it hasn't made any difference. Can someone else have a look, clear their cache, etc and let me know what they see? The version I uploaded is a direct capture whereas the previous one was a photo. Chimpanzee - User | Talk | Contribs 08:17, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

That's weird, it's also doing the same thing on the computer I'm using here at my school and I cleared the cache as well. JDC808 (talk) 13:53, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
I just re-uploaded it and it appears to of fixed it. I also captured a shot of the new map accessible from the US Home Square but didn't upload it to Wikipedia. If you think it's worth adding it to the article, let me know. Chimpanzee - User | Talk | Contribs 14:12, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the re-upload fixed it. Also, I think the re-uploaded map from the Menu Pad should be good enough. I made a mention of the new accessible map in the paragraph about the Central Plaza/Home Square, so that should be good. JDC808 (talk) 14:58, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
I've encountered this problem with a LOT of pictures. The new Home images still don't display properly for me. I use Mozilla Firefox, and I always clear my cache and switch between Firefox and Google Chrome to see whether its the browser's problem. I even check with my PS3 to see if its an IP address problem. But it's a common problem where Wikipedia keeps the new aspect ratio, but doesn't replace the image. Hopefully, the new beta will also aim to fix that problem. This is probably best addressed towards an administrator. Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 06:36, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
I get that problem every time I upload a new version of a picture. A Ctrl+F5 always fixes but it didn't in this case. Chimpanzee - User | Talk | Contribs 07:40, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

About Bowling Alley Image

I don't know if it's just an error on my screen, but on my screen it is showing the full image instead of the image with a horizontal scroll like the Central Plaza image has. I looked to see if there was something wrong in it's format on the edit page and I couldn't find an error in it's format. Has anyone else noticed this? JDC808 (talk) 06:18, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Never mind since it's been removed. JDC808 (talk) 21:07, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

"Necessary" non-free images

The definition here is that used in WP:NFCC#8 - "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." The question you have to ask yourself is "if I removed this image, would a reader suddenly not understand the article?". Black Kite 05:40, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

To answer that question, not necessarily, however, like the first part of that definition says, they do increase the readers' understanding. Now lets say you were the one to make the decision of removing some images, which ones would you remove and why? Maybe we can come to an agreement here of which ones to remove and which ones to keep. JDC808 (talk) 14:53, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
I would keep one of (and possibly both of) the two Central Plaza ones, and the Harbour Studio one. Black Kite 17:50, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Reasons of why not to keep any others? JDC808 (talk) 20:48, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Because there's not really anything there that isn't described perfectly well in the text. The reader doesn't need to see the interfaces for the avatars and shops to understand that they exist, I'm pretty sure they can imagine what a podium, poker room, or a lounge looks like (and for all these, the actual designs aren't discussed in the article, which is an NFCC criteria). The Xi one has to go anyway because it's already used in the Xi article, and using it here would be overuse. Black Kite 21:28, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I can see the store interface image being removed. The avatar, not so much, however, we can remove it and I could get an image of the Harbour Studio with an avatar in it, so the readers can see what a Home apartment and a Home avatar look like. I can see the Presentation Podium being removed. We can remove the Everybody's Golf Lounge image, but I think we should keep the EA Poker Room image to demonstrate the social interaction of users in Home, which is what Home is for, and there is about a sentence or two description of what's in the poker room in the EA Sports Complex paragraph. With Xi, what if we replace the current image with the logo? I'll go ahead and remove a couple or so. JDC808 (talk) 22:22, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
The Xi logo does not help illustrate the article as well as the screenshot. I have made a new image with both the avatar and the apartment. Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 06:29, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
The Xi logo is non-free is well. You misunderstand; the Xi image isn't a matter of opinion - it cannot be used in this article because it is used in the main one. Using a non-free image twice is overuse and fails this part of the image policy. Black Kite 07:27, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, we're now down to five non-free images, including the logo in the infobox. Since the number of non-free images has dropped below the lowest number on the page that list all the pages with high numbers of non-free images, can we remove the tag? JDC808 (talk) 13:28, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Ok sweet. Thanks for helping us with the process Black Kite! Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 09:39, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Game Developer Spaces and Non-gaming Company Spaces sections

I've been thinking on this for a little while now. Actually, I thought about this when I originally started the List of PlayStation Home Game Spaces page. When I started that page, I had mentioned that if the Game Developer Spaces and Non-gaming Company Spaces sections get too big, we could do something similar for them like what has been done for the Game Spaces. Well, I believe that time has come, at least for the Game Developer Spaces. The Game Developer Spaces section has gotten kind of big, it's up to four spaces with a pretty good paragraph about each, plus there's a short beginning paragraph and a little bit at the end about other company's interested in Home. The Non-gaming Company Spaces section only has three, but it will probably grow in time, that one, I'm not too worried about at the moment. So what I'm thinking of doing, is instead of making separate List pages for them, I was thinking of just adding them to the List page for the Game Spaces, and acknowledge them on that page as Game Developer Spaces and Non-gaming Company Spaces. This would shorten up and clean up those two sections. What do you guys think? JDC808 (talk) 01:56, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, that's a good idea. Just be careful how much you detail each Space, or it may sound like a game guide. Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 07:15, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'll start working on it here sometime today. I'll just put the features of the space like I've done with the other game spaces, which I'm going to edit a couple to make them shorter, like Minna de Spelunker, it has a lot of features lol but that's also due to it having a room within it's space. I was also thinking about doing a table on the Xi page for it's spaces, just have the name of the space and it's features. I think it would be a little more pleasing to the eyes, instead of the paragraphs mentioning the spaces features. JDC808 (talk) 13:37, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Your input is massively appreciated. Thanks for being in the process of phasing out non-free images from the article. I'm always baffled with those guidelines, and have no idea how they work still. Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 09:43, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
No problem, glad I can help. Yeah, the guidelines get confusing sometimes. Some I don't know until I come across them. JDC808 (talk) 05:47, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Oh, even if u read all of those guidelines, it's hard to know what some of them demand/recommend. Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 10:45, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Article length

Be careful not to go above a couple of paragraphs per section, or it just becomes unfriendly to people who are either new to the article or haven't seen it in a while. I can relate to this because I found it very difficult to find a piece of information that was supposed to be something prominent, and not hidden in several paragraphs of examples. Remember the paragraph structure and don't go overboard with examples. Try not listing dates for unimportant events too, because it's just redundant now that Home is already two years old. Hi, this is the PlayStation Home Wikipedia Discussion page to better improve the article (as well as post updates to Home). You're question technically shouldn't be brought to this area and can not be fully answered here and thus should be asked in the official PlayStation Home forums. I will, however, answer some of your question though to the best of my ability. Errors happen to anyone and everyone and may not be Home related, but rather, your internet connection or a server overload/crash because of two much activity on the server. You have to remember, Home is still a beta and still has many problems to be fixed. If you are from the North American region, you can ask this question here North America Home Forums and if you're from the European region, you can ask this question here Europe Home Forums. If you've never used the PlayStation Home forums for Europe or North America, all you have to do is go to Log In and sign in with the email and password you use for your PlayStation Network account and then you can post in the forums. JDC808 (talk) 21:10, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Umm....... i was technicly asking why it wasn't on the arcticle. OK? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nascarkylebuschj12 (talkcontribs) 17:03, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

What? No you weren't. You asked for PlayStation Home to be updated. No where in your first post did you ask why it wasn't on the article. Also, sign your post with four tildes (~). JDC808 (talk) 23:24, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Thats because i was too carried away with the problem by mistake! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nascarkylebuschj12 (talkcontribs) 14:36, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Never delete Talk page posts, no matter if you don't like what was posted or not, just don't do it. Also, you need to learn how to sign your post. After you're done typing your post on a talk page, type four tildes which are these little things => ~ . JDC808 (talk) 01:40, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Though it was an accident. When i tried to state that i was carried away, someehow, just SOMEhow, it couldn't go in the article and the only way to make it fit is to delete your stuff. => ~ . nascarkylebuschj12 (I cant sign my name right!) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nascarkylebuschj12 (talkcontribs) 20:07, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

On the keyboard up beside number 1, there's a key that has the tilde by pressing shift and that key. Do that four times and you've signed your post. Unless you're not posting from a PC/laptop, then I'm not entirely sure. What are you posting from? JDC808 (talk) 173.81.132.218 (talk) 01:08, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

PlayStation Home is not developed by Studio Cambridge and it was solely the London studio. The source quoted for who developed Home also makes no sense as the article quoted doesn't ever mention Home and it is clearly about PlayTV. Please use this Tweet from Home's producer as a source for this: http://twitter.com/#!/MvdMbladiebla/status/16283590199349248

Can't edit as it's semi-locked. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cubehouse (talkcontribs) 12:25, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey Cubehouse, how's it going? It's JVB from the forums. Thanks for noticing that. I started editing this page after that was added so I didn't think to check that. Good eye. I'll get on to changing that. Also, I could be wrong, but (I'm assuming you just signed up) I think after so many days of being a member of Wikipedia you can edit (might be 3 or 5 days, editing might also have a factor). You actually might be able to edit now seeing as that you made this post on the 19th and it's now the 22nd. But yeah, I'll get on to changing that as well as adding the new Xi info about the museum. Also, to sign your post here on talk pages, at the end of your post, enter four tildes, that way SineBot there doesn't have to come in and sign it for you. I am disappointed to see that my attempts to standardize this article's spelling have been reverted twice by JDC808, leaving it inconsistent again, which is unacceptable under WP:ENGVAR of the Manual of Style (or any sensible style): "Although Wikipedia favors no national variety of English, within a given article the conventions of one particular variety should be followed consistently." Consensus was reached in an archived discussion to use British English here, based on an argument that appealed to WP:TIES (personally, I think that while WP:TIES might favour BrE, I don't necessarily see it requiring BrE). WP:RETAIN, considered alone, would probably also favour British English over other dialects, at least on a first-use basis ([9]): note the mixture of -ise and -ize suffixes (customization, personalization, and organised), which suggests British usage (-ise or -ize) over either Australasian usage (usually -ise) or North American usage (usually -ize). I chose to standardize to BrE based on the article history, the consensus reached in 2008, and the BrE template that has remained on the talk page. While I'm not particularly interested in what spellings are used, I do want to see consistency here. Some standardized rigour (talk) 06:50, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

There is an additional consensus that relates to all articles covered by WP:VG. It was initially created to stop flip-flopping of different cover-art from different regions, but it is now applied to articles in general. If there is any content dispute based upon nationality in an article, the developer's nationality is the deciding factor. - X201 (talk) 09:01, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
I agree. Just stick with consistency. Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 09:36, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Based on the fact that the consensus is from 2008, maybe a new one should be met for the reasoning that since then, from the looks of it, the majority of the article has transitioned out of BrE. JDC808 (talk) 16:53, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
X201: Is the WP:VG consensus formalized somewhere?
JDC808: I'm not sure "the majority of the article has transitioned out of BrE"; it looks pretty mixed throughout to me (for example, compare color/harbour, -ise/-ize, theater/theatre, etc.). It's not in AmE, BrE, or CanE as it stands. Some standardized rigour (talk) 07:18, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Besides which transitioning an article from one ENGVAR form to another isn't a valid reason. We are supposed to respect an article's ENGVAR version when we edit, and make edits in the same version of ENGVAR. MOS:RETAIN is unequivocal on the matter. - X201 (talk) 09:03, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Those spellings you pointed out are intentional, at least some are. For example, with harbour, that is the way the Harbour Studio is spelled in all versions, so the -our is based on the naming/spelling that Sony has universally used across all versions of Home. The theater/theatre is also based on the naming that appear in the different versions. I don't remember if there's any intentional spots for '-'ise/-ize difference. JDC808 (talk) 17:37, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
JDC808, I was not referring to proper nouns that only have one spelling; these are always spelled as they are spelled irrespective of the spelling the article uses (see WP:ENGVAR: "use the original spelling, for example United States Department of Defense and Australian Defence Force"). As you've said, "Home Theatre" and "Theater Lobby" should coexist in this article. I was referring to examples such as "The Core Spaces from SCE are the central meeting point, the theatre, ..." and "Sony's E3 press conference was streamed live in PlayStation Home in a special virtual theater"; these must not coexist within the same article. Some standardized rigour (talk) 06:42, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

So, do we have consensus to use BrE throughout? If "the developer's nationality is the deciding factor" to resolve such situations for articles within the scope of WP:VG, I can't see an argument that can be made to oppose it. Some standardized rigour (talk) 06:42, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Performing critical and major edit over the entire article

I have completely gone through the article and removed anything I thought was unnecessary. I also made the grammar less awkward and corrected any spelling errors. Here are a few tips for the future, so this doesn't need to be done again:
1. Please use the web browser's dictionary to see if anything is spelled wrong. The red underline means it's spelled wrong.
2. When more and more features come to Home, it is not necessary to list them all. This article is meant to be informative, and it isn't supposed to list everything about the service, just the most prominent features.
3. Please note the difference between American and British English. As stated above.
4. Do not use advertising adjectives and make the service sound impressive. It's an article, not an advertisement.
Thanks. Ffgamera - My page! · Talk to me!· Contribs 03:01, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

The spelling differences may have been noted; I had hoped JDC808 and X201 would have reached an agreement by now, so that the inconsistency can be resolved. Some standardized rigour (talk) 08:32, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
