8 mnemonic?

[edit]

Does MVEMJSUN have a mnemonic? 70.51.9.124 (talk) 07:03, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos [1] [2]Eoghanacht talk 17:03, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I rather like "My Very Excellent Mnemonic's Just Sorta Useless Now." 1995hoo (talk) 05:22, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rename article

[edit]

Because of the rapidly expanding list of plutoids in the solar system, I have made this article more generic, by moving it to "planetary mnemonic" rather than "My Very Exciting Magic Carpet..." If anyone cares to expand the article to include any other notable and verifiable mnemonics (not just something you thought up yourself), please do so. You are welcome to suggest your own mnemonics on this talk page, though -- just make sure they are clever, catchy, and fun. — Eoghanacht talk 21:06, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another One

[edit]

The first one I learned (in the mid 1950's) was "Man very early made jars serve useful needs, period." (None too good, I agree.) I suspect this predates the discovery of Pluto, when the "period" was added. Also, the original form of the "My very energetic mother" mnemonic featured pickles, not pizzas. (Unimportant, of course.) As a child in the 1960s, I learned "Man Very Early Made (A) Jar Stand Up Nearly Perpendicular". GBC (talk) 17:31, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

MVEMJSUPN

[edit]

Given that between 1979 and 1999 Pluto was closer to the Sun than Neptune, did they change the mnemonic? (I'm hoping that if they did, they didn't just change it to "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Pizzas Nine"...) Lanthanum-138 (talk) 11:38, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MVEMCJSUNPHME

[edit]

An adaption of Maryn Smith's mnemonic, to include Makemake and Haumea:

"My Very Elegant Mother Just Sat Upon Nine Pins"

[edit]

I don't believe this was ever common. Someone replaced "My very energetic mother just served us nine pizzas," which was here previously, with this. ("Pickles" was what I learned). This WAS quite common. Kostaki mou (talk) 21:55, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
