Sun
[edit]Why was the Sun section removed? SockTaters (talk) 13:29, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- I presume because the Sun is not a planet. (cc @Xirosaturn) CoronalMassAffection (talk) 17:44, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- That is an excellent reason. SockTaters (talk) 18:17, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- So what if it's not a planet? The idea is to discuss all the noteworthy places of the solar system, regardless of their nature. Cambalachero (talk) 18:57, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- The article is titled "Planetary habitability in the Solar System". I'd agree if it were "Habitability in the Solar System" instead. SockTaters (talk) 19:23, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
I agree.See below. CoronalMassAffection (talk) 19:26, 18 January 2024 (UTC)- Despite the name, "Planetary habitability" as a concept is not limited to planets but to all celestial bodies, even those that are not planets, such as satellites and dwarf planets. "Planetary" is basically a disambiguator, to distinguish the astronomical concept from other types of habitability. Cambalachero (talk) 21:08, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Only stupid people would think that is life on Sol. Xirosaturn (talk) 16:03, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Let's keep the discussion civil please. Primefac (talk) 17:34, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Look, I don't want an edit war. Just can we come to a census please? Xirosaturn (talk) 17:38, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- That may be so, but the way of Wikipedia is to state even the obvious as if it wasn't. And there's no need to be rude. Cambalachero (talk) 21:03, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Ugh, I don't really care. Xirosaturn (talk) 21:16, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- And also I meant that as if I don't care about wikipedia rules. Xirosaturn (talk) 14:57, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- Let me get this straight: you want to remove a section because only "stupid" people [sic] wouldn't know about it already, don't care about the rules over all this (article content, discussions, basic polite behavior), and don't want an edit war but keep removing it nonetheless. Is that it? Cambalachero (talk) 17:17, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that we could remove, since life on the sun is practically impossible], but you don’t have to be so rude about it. Atlantlc27Lol (talk) 21:01, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- That's a bad reason to remove it IMO. The article's purpose is to answer whether various bodies are habitable. An answer of "no" doesn't imply the question isn't worth answering. Assuming @Cambalachero is correct that "planetary" is a disambiguator rather than referring to literal planets, it seems appropriate to have a short section that effectively says "The sun is not habitable". SockTaters (talk) 12:28, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- The word planetary means planet. Also @Cambalachero, just because you have a cool super fancy badge does not mean you can boss people around and tell them what to do. Xirosaturn (talk) 17:04, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- Language is a bit more complex than just the bare-bones dictionary definitions of each isolated word of a sentence. And when did I tell you what to do? Cambalachero (talk) 17:33, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- Enough, both of you. You've both said your piece. Please wait for other opinions from uninvolved editors. Primefac (talk) 18:32, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- Telling me to stop. Xirosaturn (talk) 19:09, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

- Im just saying that we could remove it since live would be impossible. Terraforming it would also be impossible (at least to my knowledge). Atlantlc27Lol (talk) 19:28, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

- It seems like a really silly thing to include and I'm therefore in favor of excluding. The version that's being edit warred over, [1] also appears to be a very close paraphrase/copyvio of the source given. VQuakr (talk) 19:50, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- I am in favor of removing the Sun section per reasons above, but seriously, this discussion reminds me of a first grade argument. Mondtaler (talk) 10:44, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
