Help adding categories

[edit]

Hi! I’m not able to add categories:

Category:LGBT festivals Category:Pride parade

Can someone assist me? Gleeanon409 (talk) 05:12, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if this is going to be a satisfactory answer, but it seems you are using the mobile interface. Now some people think that's fine, but I can't imagine trying to edit that way. If you switch to the desktop view and source editor, adding categories is very simple: go to the bottom of the page and add your categories in imitation of the categories already present. Traditionally, categories appear in alphabetical order, but nothing very terrible happens if you get the ordering wrong. There's also a tool called HotCat that you can turn on in preferences, but it's best to do it the hard way for a while (you'll want to know the 'hard way' for when you don't like what you've done with HotCat!). — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 05:45, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As this is not a user talk page, I'd better include a ping: @Gleeanon409:

  • ... that the Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival is one of the largest LGBTQ events in South Africa? Source: "The wedding was part of the 16th annual Knysna Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival - one of SA’s biggest gay pride events - and was held at Villa Castollini guesthouse and venue, which is located between Knysna and Brenton-on-Sea.” ([1])
  • Alt: ... that the Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival celebrates LGBTQ culture with Wigstock events for drag queens, a bear fest, athletic events, and an art festival? Source: “It is a celebration of LGBTQ culture and identity, with its own version of Wigstock, a bear fest, a marathon, half marathon, triathlon, forest cycle and forest walk, an art exhibition and a social outreach.”;([2])

Images

[edit]
For the infobox?

@Gleeanon409: I added a commons category and some images from it.

  • There may be too many, feel free to pick the ones you consider the best. I added all but the dog and the shoes, as I didn't consider them all that distinctive to the festival, but I'm not the expert here.
  • I think we may want to put one of them to be the main image for the article in the infobox, rather than the LGBT flag, as the flag is for a lot of events, not just this one. Maybe the costume with the giant feathers that otherwise doesn't get justice in the gallery? Since this is supposed to be a bird-themed event? I can crop and brighten it a bit to make it more visible. But again, if you disagree, please say. --GRuban (talk) 13:44, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GRuban:, I’m technically challenged right now so cannot see any images. I trust you to serve our readers! Gleeanon 13:52, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, done. If, when you get back access, you look and gasp in horror, feel free to pick a different image or otherwise discuss. Same to other readers, by the way. --GRuban (talk) 14:16, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
