Organisation with an international scope

[edit]

See http://www.danceability.com/index.php - hopefully I'll get around to this one soon - but if anyone else wants to have a go at this article please do so. Roger (talk) 22:23, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another company - might be the oldest?

[edit]

News source about another US based dance company established 30 years ago - http://www.mlive.com/onthetown/index.ssf/2011/02/company_demonstrates_that_ther.html

This article really needs an expert - all I know about the subject is what I've read in the cited sources. Roger (talk) 13:34, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can think of several other companies off the top of my head. Someone I know did a PhD thesis on the topic, and several others are very involved in disability dance. Don't know that any of them are active Wikipedians currently, but will ask for input. Sportygeek (talk) 20:24, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article needs to be expanded

[edit]

This article is currently just a list of links to other articles. It needs to get some content discussing the phenomenon itself. The dance section of Disability in the arts actually has more content than this article even though this one is linked there as the "Main" article. Unfortunately I am a complete outsider to the world of Dance and my Google-fu seems to fail me as I can't find usable online material on the phenomenon of physically integrated dance per se, outside of material about specific individual companies. This article needs an editor with access to "dead tree" sources about dance. I'd really like to attract the attention of dance experts but unfortunately there seems to be zero interest from the Dance Wikiproject. I wonder if there is perhaps still hostility towards the Disability Project (where I come from) after the template issue - which was resolved ages ago. Roger (talk) 07:47, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see no signs of any hostility and also see no reason for it. It is unfortunately quite often the case that there is little response to a good idea which would involve extra work! Neither have I yet worked out how to expand the article but I will have another look round. --Mirokado (talk) 09:54, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I found this article while I was searching for news headlines for the Disability Portal - Redefining concepts of dance and disability - maybe there is something useful in it. Roger (talk) 11:30, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Content brought over from Disability in the arts

[edit]

The Dance section in the Disability in the arts article had developed much more content than this article, which has remained a brief summary of the subject. I proposed swoping the content on Talk:Disability in the arts quite some time ago. As nobody responded to the proposal, I took silence to signify agreement, so I've swopped the content so that the Dance section in Disability in the arts is the summary and this article contains the fuller detailed material. Roger (talk) 11:23, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

These companies were simply listed in the Disability in the arts article - Some are already included in this article with brief descriptions. I think the redlinks in this list need to be created so that they can also be mentioned in this article.

I will try to get to work on these soon. Roger (talk) 15:47, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bay City Ballet

[edit]

Bay City Ballet Studio located in Largo, Florida is a dance studio that has a program called Dance of the Pheonix that is geared toward people with disabilities. They offer all different types of dance classes such as Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, and Ballet. The program is open to all people with disabilities, whether they be physical or mental. Dance of the Pheonix is about renewal and rebirth and changing the stereotype for those with disabilities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cleann (talkcontribs) 19:31, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
