Rainiera
[edit]@DavidAnstiss: Hi, I've had a look at your source for the above mentioned genus, but don't pretend to be able to speak German! You've said that Greene was friends with Rainier, but how is that possible if the latter died 35 years before the former was born? Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 21:56, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
- I only noticed the date difference afterwards !
- There is English text after the German text - this is normally the botanists explanation for name choosing! I took that note for the article.
- Re - 'the round snowy mountain, now forming its southern extremity, and which, after my friend Rear Admiral Rainier, I distinguished by the name of Mount Rainier, bore N 42 E.'
- I am still sure that the plant was named after him but think the 'friend' thing may refer to the Mount - which was named after Peter Rainier as well.

- Having now read the passage(!), agree that the "Rear Admiral Rainier" is this man. Looks like the truth of it is that the "friend" of Rainier is George Vancouver, and the genus was named after the mountain. Will change the article accordingly. - Thanks, do you need me to change the plant article? I also noted it was R.A Rainier not Mt Rainier!!
