We introduce ourselves as THE ABYSS, an indo – western band. Established in the late 90’s in the temple city of Bhubaneswar, has evolved into the BEST band of Orissa, fulfilling the musical needs of music lovers of differing ages! A well – known band in this region, we perform numbers ranging from country, rock, pop, indi-pop, Indian rock, religious and our very own ORIGINALS which has also found a mark of appreciation among music intellectuals. Behind us, we have a long history of how this band has evolved! Starting from nothing, and we being young students, had no means to finance neither for equipments nor for building an infra-structure. We had talent in plenty, but we were placed against all odds. Any performance meant hiring or borrowing of musical equipments from friends and professionals, which would cost us a major part of our small income. And then comes the story of immense sacrifice and conviction, where all the band members contributed everything - whatever little we earned, whatever free time we had beyond our regular schedule and loads of youthful energy – cementing our bond with music.

And now, we introduce . . . .

NIRAL Founder member of the “Dream-come-true” band. A perfect planner and organizer in the field of music, is the lead vocalist and the keyboardist in the band. A background in classical music spanning for years and a never ending desire to explore music, is the major source of inspiration for this young music professional. Equipped with technical details in sound production; has been instrumental in bringing a “pleasing-to-the-ear-and-heart music” to the fans!

EUGENE Founder member, who has walked miles with The Abyss, from the Day 1. He is a very intriguing personality and has a touch of a perfectionist! Guitar is his passion and immaculate leads talk about his art. He is a massive thinker and contributes lots to the think-tank of the band. A sweet timer of rhythm and a harmony-vocalist, thus he adds colour to the performances of The Abyss. And how can one ever forget his innovative ideas of constructing home-made gadgets, only to replace the early shortages of the band?

WENDEL A live wire in the band! He is a very talented bass guitarist, and loves sliding his fingers on his fretless fret board. He is known more for his stage performances and his famous white patch! He has the distinction of playing aggressive bass riffs and bumpy ‘head over heels’ summersaults. Being good at heart combined with an open mouth, makes him noisy at conversations.

LALIT Youngest of all, yet has a very sharp and accurate music sense. As the lead guitarist in the band, his significant contributions are at playing hard rock, perfect innovative leads and certainly wonderful vocals. He’s a very hard working musician, constantly adding on his creativity and clean guitaring! He being a computer buff himself helps the band to be updated with the latest trends in music.

ANDREW He’s the last addition to the group but not the least! Having a strong urge to keep learning, he has proved himself to be a very versatile drummer / percussionist. A strong rhythm sense and a dedication for music, helps him reach out beyond his unassuming personality. No wonder, he has been the bridge between the band and its music!

SANJIB A blessing to the band! Wise negotiator by nature, teams up with the gang, shouldering responsibilities of a manager. On him, wrests the schedule of the band, how we plan our performances, and most importantly, the settlement of accounts. Added to this, he’s a whiz – kid on computers, and one can only appreciate his agility and aptitude, thus bringing the band, as close possible to latest technology and trend in the world of music.

We are grateful to all our friends – Ewan, Danny, Vivian, Leonard, G. V. Rao, Satya, Omir, Naresh Uncle, who have convincingly played their roles as musicians and pals, and had to leave us for various engagements. We also salute the contributions made by Sibu and Mr. M. R. Subudhi in various capacities towards the band.
