Removing Niagara Peninsula From Summary

[edit]

I am removing the Niagara Peninsula from the opening summary, as it is not an actual peninsula, although it is commonly or popularly referred to as a peninsula. However, geographical references do not refer to it as such, and by definition it is not a peninsula. I am replacing it with more recognizable peninsulas on the planet Earth. Also, the opening summary lists 4 "references" for this sentence - which are actually definitions for the term peninsula - but do not constitute a "reference." Those definitions should be applied somewhere else where the definition of peninsula is discussed. Stevenmitchell (talk) 07:52, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Plural is peninsulae but it won't let me change it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.236.246.146 (talk) 23:47, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Scandinavian vs Fennoscandian

[edit]

Hello there. I am wondering why exactly the Scandinavian Peninsula is listed in the overview of peninsulas instead of the Fennoscandian. This is obviously also a peninsula, separated from the rest of Afro-Eurasia by the strip of land between the Gulf of Finland and the Onega Bay. I understand that the Scandinavian is the more commonly-recognized term, but geographically I don't see the reasoning for excluding Finland, Kola and Karelia from the peninsula. 109.247.106.148 (talk) 21:50, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment If you Google "Top 10 largest peninsulas in the world", you would notice that most sources do not recognize Fennoscandia as a peninsula, but what is the exact definition of peninsula anyway? Geography is weird and confusing. 2001:8003:9100:2C01:2CBB:595:7402:F161 (talk) 13:27, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn’t the Fennoscandian Peninsula be at Number 4?

Comment If you Google "Top 10 largest peninsulas in the world", you would notice that most sources do not recognize Fennoscandia as a peninsula. The funny thing is that the lists provided by these sources are pretty inconsistent too. The only consistent thing to me is that the Arabian Peninsula is the largest peninsula in the world. They all agree about that, but other than that, there are a lot of different stories.
By the way, can anyone tell me that what is the exact definition of peninsula? Geography is weird and confusing. 2001:8003:9100:2C01:2CBB:595:7402:F161 (talk) 13:17, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Is the Balkans technically a peninsula?

[edit]

Is the Balkans still considered to be a peninsula? Some people said that it does not meet the definition of peninsula, but what is the exact definition of peninsula anyway?

If the Balkans is not a peninsula, then Mainland Southeast Asia, the Horn of Africa, and Alaska are probably not peninsulas too. Aren't they?

Geography is weird and confusing.
