Color

[edit]

Hi, I really like the fact that we're not using bold to show which members are elected. However, using color is also not suitable for screenreaders. Not sure how we can fix that? Dajasj (talk) 10:48, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I mostly tried to copy the layout of the 2019 article, and I decided to add the coloring since that article did not show at all who was elected. I did not really think about screen readers, so it would be good to increase the accessibility on that front. I am not really sure how exactly, though. - Tristan Surtel (talk) 19:20, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps we can add a "Notes" column with the text "Elected" for those to whom it would apply. We could also use it for other notes, such as candidates declining their seats or being appointed to fill a vacancy. Luxorr (talk) 19:27, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I really dislike "Notes" columns, because they get wide and chaotic. But maybe just notes such as done with Thijs Reuten is a simple solution. Not sure whether a screenreaders works with that? Dajasj (talk) 19:34, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An alternative solution is to put a checkY in front of elected candidates' names. Luxorr (talk) 19:46, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A seperate column would be better then? Dajasj (talk) 18:56, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Either solution works for me. Luxorr (talk) 19:06, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An extra column would not be my preference, as it complicates the table. Are tick marks picked up by screen readers? - Tristan Surtel (talk) 21:49, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure. I've used text instead of symbols here: List of Reformed Political Party candidates in the 2017 Dutch general election Dajasj (talk) 13:10, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tristan Surtel, how do feel about applying that style (see for most recent List of candidates in the 2023 Dutch general election) here as well? Dajasj (talk) 19:28, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dajasj: That formatting is definitely fine with me. I like that due to the "Elected" column other facts (such as the replacements) can be added as well. - Tristan Surtel (talk) 20:43, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And maybe remove the link for preference votes from the column header? I sometimes click on there to sort.. Dajasj (talk) 13:55, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do believe many readers might be unfamiliar with that term, but I do think there can be alternatives to the current situation. The list would probably be better if this feature of the Dutch electoral system (open lists) would shortly be explained in the introduction. "Preference votes" can be linked there, mostly removing the need to link it again in the tables. Alternatively, "Preference votes" could be changed to "Votes", as that would also be correct. - Tristan Surtel (talk) 17:06, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
