Talk:Palutena
Japanese name
[edit]パルテナ should be written as "Parthena" in English. It comes from the Greek "Παρθενα" meaning virgin, and is written in English as Parthena.72.200.173.230 15:18, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Parutena is the Japanese phonetic pronunciation, not the translation. 75.153.231.20 16:14, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm a Greek(native)/Japanese(proficient) speaker and I'm certain "Palutena" is a translation error. I happen to have an aunt called Παρθένα/Παρθενία(Parthena/Parthenia) for crying out loud. There's no «θ» sound in Japanese. «Παρθένα» is traditionally transcribed as パルテナ in Japanese and Parthena in English. 85.75.185.18 08:07, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think this information is fair and reasonable and should be put back in. It doesn't seem like speculation at all, it's logically extracted from an understanding of the Greek and Japanese language systems and how they compare in translation. The trivia about the role of Palutena compared to real Greek deities is not speculation either, it's merely comparative mythology. It never said she was for sure based on those two gods, although we know the game generally is based on Greek myth - the trivia merely compared her to the myth system she was derived from. There's a difference between unfounded speculation (like comparing her shield to Link's just because there's a mirror on it) and very obvious comparisons (like drawing parallels between languages and mythological systems), and the trivia tidbits were the latter. Therefore I'm putting them back in.Rglong 18:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Someone had put all the Palutena text on the page "Paletuna" and had the original page redirect to that one. I took the liberty of putting it back where it belongs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.91.8.99 (talk) 17:54, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
