Managers

[edit]

The former manager section is all sorts of wrong. An IP edited several names into the article on 3 February [1], none of which were managers of PSV. Someone with knowledge of the club's history should clean the section up. Razororz 11:01, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, I'll do it myself. I'm awesome like that. Razororz 15:18, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You made a small error and left out Aad de Mos. I put him in. Vorrion 21:28, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever. I'm still awesome regardless. Razororz 15:43, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable players

[edit]

I'd say Jérémie Bréchet is a notable player: first French player ever. That does make someone notable. Markvanw (talk) 17:54, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, he isn't more not notable than for example Sun Xiang. I'll just put him in. --Markvanw (talk) 22:00, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I beg to differ. A notable player is someone who has made an impact at the club. Bréchét has been with PSV for only a few weeks. He hasn't made any impact yet. Simply being the first PSV player from a particular country is a factoid, it's trivia, it doesn't make someone notable or significant. The inclusion of other dubious names, like Sun Xiang, doesn't warrant including Bréchét. Aecis·(away) talk 21:05, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its just how to explain notable. Notable as in what you say: made an impact at the club. Notable can also mean: interesting to know. Michael Reiziger and Patrick Kluivert for example, haven't made any impact but they are famous/notable players. Same goes for Bréchet (first French ever), Sun Xiang (first Chinese ever), Skerla (first Lithuaian ever) etc. --Markvanw (talk) 10:30, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to read the thread I started over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Notable players sections. Notable/significant doesn't mean "interesting to know" on Wikipedia. We use Category:PSV Eindhoven players to include anyone who has ever played for PSV. The article section is only for the particular/special cases, players who played an important role in the history of PSV. Kluivert and Reiziger are/were leading internationals for the Netherlands, so including them is reasonable imo. Kluivert is the all-time top scorer for the Netherlands, Reiziger is the 15th most capped player of the Netherlands. Bréchet, Sun Xiang and Skerla don't come close to their level, with all due respect. Sun Xiang and Skerla are among the scores of players who tried but failed at PSV. Bréchet is busy trying to succeed, but hasn't achieved anything at PSV yet. Simply being the first from a particular country is a factoid, a statistic, a detail. It is not vital or significant. Aecis·(away) talk 14:27, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are contradicting yourself. At first you say "A notable player is someone who has made an impact at the club.", and now, you are trying to tell me they are notable for a club when they have international fame. I dont get it anymore. Bréchet has international fame, as do Reiziger and Kluivert. Markvanw (talk) 12:52, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If the article section "is only for the particular/special cases, players who played an important role in the history of PSV"(which I agree), Reiziger, Kluivert and Bréchet are not notable players for PSV. I think the list has to be cleaned up "a little bit"... Ismaïl Aissati, Davy Oyen, Niklas Jensen, Tomek Iwan... and many, many others... --Lempkesfabriek (talk) 08:18, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How am I contradicting myself, Mark? Kluivert and Reiziger made an impact at the club, even if just by being Kluivert and Reiziger. They didn't deliver what they were expected to deliver, I agree, and they didn't come close to the impact people like Romario and Nilis have had. That's why I called their inclusion "reasonable", and not something like "obvious". Aecis·(away) talk 12:41, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Reiziger made an impact on the club? No way! Maybe you can say that Kluivert made an impact on the fans of the club; they were split up in those who "hates" Kluivert because he's the person (Ajax, arrogant, etc.) that is not welcome in Eindhoven; Most fans thought that every player is welcome in Eindhoven. Finally: on the pitch he made no impact. --Lempkesfabriek (talk) 21:06, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Kluivert and Reizigers appearance wasn't reasonable at all. It was pathetic. Markvanw (talk) 17:32, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Former captains

[edit]

How about a new feature: former captains? Markvanw (talk) 17:54, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know them all? --Lempkesfabriek (talk) 08:20, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some. Just the ones of the past few years, being Timmy Simons 2007-present, Philip Cocu 2005-2007, Mark van Bommel 200?-2005. Markvanw (talk) 17:20, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some possible former captains: Yuri Nikiforov, Luc Nilis, Hans van Breukelen, Jan van Beveren, Willy van der Kuijlen, Wim Jonk, Guus Hiddink, Huub Stevens, Erik Gerets, Ronald Koeman, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard, Stan Valckx, Jan Wouters, Søren Lerby, Frank Arnesen, Jan Heintze Markvanw (talk) 11:37, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Frank Rijkaard was de best deal ever for PSV, but he can't be a former captain. :-) --Lempkesfabriek (talk) 21:38, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good job on the former captains, Lempkesfabriek! Markvanw (talk) 23:39, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sponsorship

[edit]

I had removed the section PSV Eindhoven#Sponsorship. These companies have no special relation to PSV Eindhoven other than paying a certain amount of money every now and then. They don't play a special role in the history of the club and the information doesn't add anything. It doesn't tell us anything more about PSV. The only special sponsor PSV has is Philips, and their role is explained throughout the rest of the article. Aecis·(away) talk 08:33, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

These sponsors do give more background information about PSV Eindhoven, and people might like to know what concerns PSV is dealing with. I say the article should feature Sponsorhip. Markvanw (talk) 10:27, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What background information does the list give about PSV, other than the mere fact that PSV happens to get sponsorship money? They don't have any say in the club's policies or purchases and they don't have any special place in PSV's history apart from Philips, and the role of Philips is explained elsewhere in the article. Aecis·(away) talk 14:30, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
These sponsors have no special relation to PSV, besides VDL and Bavaria , who's former chairmans are now in the board of directors of PSV Eindhoven. I think it should be deleted. --Lempkesfabriek (talk) 08:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Superleague Formula templates

[edit]

I've started a discussion about the use of the Superleague Formula templates on football club articles at Template talk:Superleague Formula following some discussion at Talk:Tottenham Hotspur F.C.. Since this article features the template, your views would be welcome. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:34, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current Squad

[edit]

current squad is ridiculously wrong... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.49.106.117 (talk) 12:14, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, wtf happened there? PSV would wish they had such a squad.UmutK (talk) 12:48, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zhou Haibin

[edit]

Is his number released by PSV? I can't find it (23). Markvanw (talk) 19:01, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Afaik his shirt number will be released at the official presentation, which is probably on Monday, when he will join the PSV squad in Eindhoven. Aecis·(away) talk 12:09, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think so too, I'm just asking this because someone added his number (being 23). Just verifying. Markvanw (talk) 16:36, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The reports and press release mentioned "Zhou Haibin (23)", but that's his age. I think that's what caused the confusion. Aecis·(away) talk 16:40, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Problem solved now: #19 for Zhou Haibin. See PSV website. Markvanw (talk) 21:38, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Several errors exist in the infobox. The logo link is invalid and other formatting errors exist. Someone with more knowledge than I needs to have a look at it.

I think I successfully pulled a good version from a previous revision. Someone should still look at it.

Usage of PSV vs PSV Eindhoven

[edit]

I wanted to point out that Eindhoven is not officially part of the club name. The official name of the club is simply PSV, which stands for Philips Sports Vereniging (English, Philips Sports Club). Officially Eindhoven is not part of the name. The club is registered at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce as PSV N.V. (Reference KvK 17104199 chamber of commerce registration number). I would like to suggest to keep the addition of Eindhoven to the club name at a minimum and only where required across Wikipedia, since it does not accurately reflect the team name, and I don't think it should be used to expand on the clubs name unless where it is deemed necessary. (Subzzee (talk) 10:03, 16 November 2015 (UTC))[reply]

PSV can be used (and is used) as an abbreviation in the article. That said, our conventions WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NATURAL strongly indicate that PSV Eindhoven is the correct name for Enwiki. gidonb (talk) 19:35, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 20 July 2017

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: NOT MOVED. (non-admin closure) StAnselm (talk) 02:43, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

– Many Dutch teams are known by their name and then the name of the city that they are in, ie Ajax Amsterdam, Vitesse Arnhem, Feyenoord Rotterdam, etc. These wikipedia articles do not have the city in the title of their names, so I don't see why this one should. There also shouldn't be much difference in the usage of either per WP:COMMONNAME. If people feel like since there is already a PSV disambiguation page so it would be easier just to leave it here, I am fine with that, however, I feel that it should be shorted to PSV in other articles just like other Dutch teams. Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. Qed237 (talk) 18:27, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just pointing out that the sources that wikipedia uses to update the Eredivisie table both use PSV, [2] and [3]. Also, the UEFA website you posted uses both PSV and PSV Eindhoven. I do not agree that either is their WP:COMMONNAME. I am not necessarily saying we have to move this page to PSV, I am just saying that we should use PSV on other wikipedia articles to keep in line with other Dutch teams. Evertonfc13 (talk) 18:30, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Do you feel that it should be shorted to PSV in other wikipedia articles so we keep a common format for all Dutch teams? Evertonfc13 (talk) 19:07, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No. GiantSnowman 19:37, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that you oppose this because you have never heard of them is crazy. This is clearly WP:PRIMARYTOPIC per no such user. Evertonfc13 (talk) 23:31, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Name of club

[edit]

I have noticed that PSV official name was changed to Eindhovense Voetbalvereniging Philips' Sport Vereniging. This is NOT THE CLUB NAME. If you go to the Dutch chamber of commerce website and search Nr. 17104199 (PSV registration number) on kvk.nl, you will see that the official club name is PSV, which stands for Philips Sports Vereniging. Eindhoven is not officially part of the club name. I believe Eindhovense Voetbalvereniging was added as a joke after the 5-0 loss to Ajax last weekend. I have now removed the vandalism, but wanted to clarify here as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.249.116.15 (talk) 08:35, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
