Dr. Gareth Porter picks up this story in "Manufactured crisis".
Nice naming, too, by the CIA guys. In the spy novel "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" some fake intelligence data ploy plays a role as well, codenamed "Merlin": The Merlin material is handled by a secret committee, consisting of Percy Alleline etc..
