Blocking IP address instead of protecting page
[edit]I think you should have just protected this page rather than block that IP address. Many people use it and it is not fair to them that they can't do it because of one person. While they can mess up many pages, if they are only targeting particular pages, those page should be protected rather than left open since the block for an IP address can only be temporary(maybe except open proxies) and they will just do it again when they get unblocked. All a blocking does is anger users who can't edit pages because of a few vandals(apparently it was just the same individual over and over again). —Preceding unsigned comment added by You're The Man Now Dog (talk • contribs) 18:06, November 28, 2006
- Sorry, standard operating procedure is to block an IP address when its misbehaving; the protection policy is clear about the level of vandalism necessary before an article will be locked. The good news is that most times when an IP address is blocked, it is blocked for anonymous edits only. If you create an account at another location (home, library etc.) or already have an account, you can continue to edit unhindered. If you would get caught in an autoblock, simply copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "Autoblocked?" section to the bottom of your talk page to request assistance.
