Update Nov. 2021

I'm working on expanding and revising this article. Started by removing a whole bunch of marketing/advertising cruft that had crept in at some point. Now adding additional sources and expanding the History section.

My first pass is going to be a bit verbose but it will all be as accurate as possible and have appropriate inline citations. I'll then trim it down. So, if anyone has any notable additions/additional sources feel free to contribute but I'd appreciate temporarily permitting some less-notable elements to remain in History at least for the next week or so as I complete revisions.
