Relationship with On the Run
[edit]@Marcnut1996 Here's an article which might help clarify their relationship. Samuel Wiki (talk) 07:58, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Samuel Wiki: This article contradicts what the Indaily article said. I am tempted to believe the latter as the court case is a real one. Marcnut1996 (talk) 09:30, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Samuel Wiki: Here is the full case on AUSTLII: [1].
- @Marcnut1996 Interesting. I guess it's possible they licensed the name later from ExxonMobil but it's not clear whether that's the case. It's not that important anyway so I'll just leave it. :) Samuel Wiki (talk) 10:36, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Samuel Wiki: Not too sure about that. Shahin had been opposed to Exxonmobil's application for the trademark between 1999 and 2005. As at 2011, ExxonMobil still owned trademark to On The Run (797721) in relation to fuel, clothing/footwear and drinks, but by 2020, Shahin owns the trademark. Still looking into how Shahin got the trademark. Once I find out how, then I think the puzzle is completed. Marcnut1996 (talk) 10:55, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Samuel Wiki: It also appears that trademark 797720 "Mobil On the Run" was not renewed in June 2019 and lapsed (see [2]). Both 797720 and 797721 were due for renewal on 18 June 2019. 797721 was renewed and now due for renewal on 18 June 2029, but I am not sure if it was by Shahin or ExxomMobil. Shell OTR
[edit]I’ve seen there are more Shell OTR sites being rebranded right now. So that change you did about a week ago is pretty irrelevant now. From 30/11/2024. They are currently phasing out BP OTR and OTR’s independent fuel sites by the looks of things, look on Google Maps for more information. Awilt17 (talk) 10:39, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Awilt17: While I don't deny that this may be the case, and probably most logical under the Viva ownership, there needs to be suitable published source that there is actually a rebrand. Your observation would classify as original research, which is not allowed unless backed by published sources. Please read WP:NOR for more detail. Google Maps is also not a suitable source. - Check Cheap Fuel Adelaide’s Facebook page or Ryan Smith’s Flicker or Google Maps page. More information about the OTR BP to Shell rebrand. Those sources are where I got my info from. Awilt17 (talk) 01:16, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- Again, I don't disagree that there may be a rebrand. But the sources you have do not classify as suitable sources. I think we should be patient, as in the near future, there may be a primary or secondary published source that will confirm the rebranding, and then we can add that information into the article.
