[edit]

This article is currently a redundant copy of the description at Newtonian telescope. I can see that a description of Newton's first telescope may be encyclopedic but the separate article's only use or rational for existence would be if it is a description of that first telescope. This article currently does not preform that function since there are only two sentences in the entire article describing the first telescope and they are redundant to the other article as well. The rest of the article (including the picture) describes Newton's other telescopes or the design in general and is therefor a redundant copy of Newtonian telescope. This article could use the following:

  • A good secondary source(s) describing the telescope. (it is currently referenced to a tertiary source)
  • A full description of Newton's first model, mirror-diagonal-tube-mount.
  • What happened to that first telescope? Was it presented to the Royal Society or was another version shown to them?... ref does not state. What was its ultimate fate?
  • The image does not have any reference as to what it is. Is it a copy of Newtons first telescope or one of the other ones he built?

If the article cannot be expanded with good refs to be more than what is already at Newtonian telescope it should be taken to AfD and probably deleted. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 16:25, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This pages current title "Newton's Reflector" does not fit MOS (no second caps). I propose Newton's first reflector and will probably move it as such soon. unless there is a better idea. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 13:34, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I made the stub because I needed an article about an actual telescope, not the modern day design for List of largest optical reflecting telescopes. Thanks for working on it. Fotaun (talk) 18:39, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
