Proposed move

[edit]

I propose to move this to Newhall Pass, which I think is the most common name. Seriously, in all the traffic reports on the radio/TV, it's always called Newhall Pass, not Fremont Pass. The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society calls it the Newhall Pass (and I think they would be among the more knowledgeable). See also searches for "Newhall Pass" and "Fremont Pass" on the LA Times web site -- no results for the latter. If there are no objections within one week, I'll do the move. howcheng {chat} 23:15, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, [1] says, "Beale's Cut used to be called Fremont Pass, but this was in error. Frémont actually "passed" into the Santa Clarita Valley about a quarter-mile to the east of Beale's Cut, on the old Indian trail (El Camino Viejo)," so this name is totally wrong. howcheng {chat} 23:32, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Man, this doesn't work for me. I'll have to check my topo maps to be sure, but it seems to me Beale's Cut is north of Newhall Pass. And SR 14 most certainly goes from the Santa Clarita Valley to the Antelope Valley.
