Draft Changes

[edit]

I've put together a draft for extension of this article, as one of fairly wide general interest (in my opinion as a UK citizen in NZ :) ), rated as High importance but still a Stub, and the one of those on which I felt least unqualified to do some work.

Since this is a fairly substantial change, I've put together a draft rather than editing directly: User:Philtweir/New Zealand – United Kingdom relations. This is far from complete and contains a number of stub-sections, scant references and cn's, but my hope is that, with its weaknesses, if this draft is implemented into mainspace, editors will feel able to chip in when they spot something and that, to the casual reader, this should still be more informative, without being particularly misleading (I hope!), than the current article.

Rather than editing the draft and creating a new history fork, would editors be happy for this to be sanctioned (or vetoed) here, first, before making changes, please? If there are any show-stoppers, please mention here. (PS: apologies to anybody who's spotted that this is the second time I've done this, for different reasons; not planning to make it a regular occurrence!) I should point out that most of the new references are web-pages rather than paper-based, though generally official sources (I think they all are, but will have to double-check in case). They will also need expanding, but will they suffice for the moment? Philtweir (talk) 03:06, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For the moment they're fine. I think you need to mention New Zealand nationality law becoming distinct from British nationality from 1949, the Governor-General no longer serving as the UK's High Commissioner to NZ from List of High Commissioners from the United Kingdom to New Zealand. --Lholden (talk) 04:01, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Added accordingly. Thanks for the feedback! If there are no objections, I'll move the corrected version over in the next day or so and changes can take place at leisure.Philtweir (talk) 06:02, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think the sentence "In New Zealand however, the republican movement is somewhat smaller, and British sentiment stronger than that of Australia" should be removed. It doesn't make any sense to me. Also, it's worth pointing out that both the UK and New Zealand have the same person as head of state, even though the Queen is resident in the UK. --Lholden (talk) 08:40, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Briefly mentioned the shared monarch and removed that unqualified statement you mentioned; however, the rest of the pre-existing stuff's probably easier to edit once the whole thing's moved over - I've generally tried to avoid both adding new and editing old in the draft, just to avoid complicating things too much. Changes implemented; thanks Lholden (talk · contribs) for input! Philtweir (talk) 00:14, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just did a major copyedit. See WP:MOS for more. --Lholden (talk) 04:32, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
