Bird Conservation Areas?

[edit]

NYS DEC also manages quite a few Bird Conservation Areas. Unsure if/ where they might fit in to this article. (See also this page.) Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 18:36, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The BCAs seems to be an important topic, and there's not much on-wiki about it currently; there probably should be. I'm not sure this article is the best place for it, however, as they seem to be established on a variety of state land designations beyond WMAs (such as Forest Preserve lands and state parks; I didn't immediately see any state forests on that list but that wouldn't surprise me either). Per my reading of this page and this page it seems the DEC is in fact just one of many members of an advisory committee that issues guidance for managing BCAs on state lands, so while I at first thought that a section at New York State Department of Environmental Conservation would be the best start, the best course of action may be to establish a new article (New York State Bird Conservation Areas?). That could at least give an overview of the program and perhaps list the areas as well at some point. These are just some initial thoughts, but thanks for pointing this out, the DEC pages should provide some nice info for fleshing out quite a few short articles for lands containing these BCAs.
