El Nuevo Día article written by a free lance journalist, not Ramos

[edit]

@Old School WWC Fan: the article is not written by Reniel Rodríguez Ramos, it is written by Mabel M. Figueroa Pérez who is a freelance journalist. if Ramos publishes (rather than gives a talk at a conference) that would be a good source. But the media are generally not good sources for archaeology. I've been given a link to the article.[1] It states unequivocally "The stones are not a fraud." It uses quotes from an archaeologist telling us what another person told him. This just isn't good enough to meet WP:RS. We need peer reviewed papers - and academic comments on them. These are extraordinary claims, they need better sources. I see over 60 uses of a conference speech by Rodriquez - I've no doubts about his ability as I know nothing about him, but I do know that we don't use conference talks as sources. Doug Weller talk 19:54, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Figueroa is not a “free lance journalist”, she is an editor for the newspaper (“Information Editor” being her official title). She has adequate education to uphold the title, so even if she was “free lance”, automatically labeling her work as “unreliable” would be condescending. Now, the first part of the article is redundant to the line about “generic” characters, that is taken from the interview with the archeologist. As far as the conference goes, Rodríguez is publishing a peer reviewed paper, it’s only a place holder. Old School WWC Fan (talk) 23:05, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request to rephrase "the priest", "the archaeologist"

[edit]

I happened upon this article and found it interesting, but I could not follow who was being referred to by epithets like the ones in the topic. Since I can't figure out who they are, I can't rewrite the article myself; if someone who does understand could rephrase these epithets, the article would become much more accessible.
