Request for comment on making "Islamic view of Moses" the primary topic.

[edit]

The article i want to move to "Musa" is Islamic view of Moses. As Islamic view of Moses depicting the Prophet Musa in Islam so i believe the name of the page should also be depicting the way it is spelled and understood in Islam. While the "Islamic view of Moses" would be treated as a redirect to the page Musa and Page Musa should be move to Musa (disambiguation). As the Prophet Musa is a prominent figure in Islam therefore majority of the places and names of person are named after Him as also show in disambiguation page. So i believe the primary topic should be Islamic view of Moses and the disambiguation page Musa should be moved to Musa (disambiguation). Please provide your opinion regarding the move with justification whether positive or negative. -- Ibrahim ebi (talk) 09:04, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Musa is to be redirected to Moses in Islam and Musa to be moved to 'Musa (disambiguation)' please as justified below. --Md iet (talk) 07:31, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Musa is Islamic name of prophet Moses and supposed to be most common name for prophet amongst any person other having similar name.

The traffic to Moses: http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Moses 130947

Musa : http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Musa 2663

Mūša: http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/M%C5%AB%C5%A1a 158

Musa_(Tanzanian_ward) : http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Musa_(Tanzanian_ward) 86

Abu_Musa : http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Abu_Musa 3444

Jebel_Musa_(Morocco) : http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Jebel_Musa_(Morocco) 1121

Mount_Sinai :http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Mount_Sinai 25292

Moses_in_Islam : http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Moses_in_Islam 1990

The above figure justify the move as Abu_Musa , Mount_Sinai , Jebel_Musa_(Morocco) have altogether different spelling and person searching for him will definitely search with other combinations and hence cannot be compared with ‘Musa’.

Above figures prove 'Musa' as most common name for 'Moses in Islam' and redirect is justified.--Md iet (talk) 07:31, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: the figures above do not appear to show that Moses in Islam is by far the most likely topic that someone searching on "Musa" will be wanting (or anything else about the intentions of people searching for "Musa"). Whether it is the most common name for the prophet is irrelevant: the argument for moving "Musa" to become a redirect depends on whether the prophet is the meaning most commonly searched for in Wikipedia. Given the number of placenames and other meanings, I'd oppose a move unless someone can prove clearly that the prophet is the primary topic for the name. PamD 12:30, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK agreed, we can redirect Musa to Moses to achieve our aim.--Md iet (talk) 05:21, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - not clear enough that Musa in the sense of a name of Moses is the commonest intended meaning.Jsmith1000 (talk)

The above move may be closed and as discussed this deserve redirect as below.--Md iet (talk) 06:40, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As discussed above the move is modified for Musa is to be redirected to Moses and Musa to be moved to 'Musa (disambiguation)'. 'Musa' is most common name in Islam for 'Moses' and it deserves at least redirect to Moses please.--Md iet (talk) 06:31, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As Musa word is mostly used for Prophet Musa' all other name are derivatives of word Musa and the specific topic already exist on them hence their individual traffic to those article is irrespective in the counting, hence you have rightly said to leave Musa alone for prophet Musa, all other things which have name with Musa to be set aside as there already exist article on that and people are going to the article through that word like Musa Kazim etc. Hence if leave aside all other traffic then only traffic via Musa deserve to be directed to Moses as it has tens of thousands viewer.--Md iet (talk) 08:39, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You keep repeating this rationale, but the evidence from page traffic is in fact inconclusive. Also, it is simply not true that all other uses are derivative from the prophet. And I'm not sure why you'd mention Musa Kazim as an example when that name is not even listed on this page. olderwiser 11:32, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - still not clear enough that Musa in the sense of a name of Moses is the commonest intended meaning.Jsmith1000 (talk)
As per my above explanation, all other topics on Musa are derivative of 'Musa' word like Musa Kazim etc. Single word Musa is intended for prophet only which is same personality as Moses hence redirect to Moses is well justified .--Md iet (talk) 08:39, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The word has other uses but not with just 'Musa' , there is always second word attached with it like 'Musa Kazim', which becomes a new word. No body is searching 'Musa Kazim' with word 'Musa'. Prophet Musa is known by majority of people by simple ' Musa' only.--Md iet (talk) 07:16, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you keep bringing up Musa Kazim, which is not even listed on the disambiguation page as being ambiguous. If you look at the entries on the disambiguation page, there are many that are not derived from Moses. Please stop repeating this false argument. olderwiser 11:05, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
