I don't know anything about what should be included here, but reading this article gave me no idea about what happpened. It seems to suggest that she was not murdered but committed suicide because it mentions the bleach incident before it even talks about her body being discovered-- it seems like a very bad editorial.

Previous versions

Another editor wrote:

This page may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion. The given reason is: G4: recreation of deleted content. This is the third incarnation of this page. I can't actually be sure that this is "a substantially identical copy" because I can't see the previous versions, but it's pretty similar to my recollection of the second incarnation. If it's not close enough for G4, it could be deleted as nn-bio or copyvio; or taken to AfD again

My comments: I don't have access to the version of the article discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shafilea Ahmed, but the old version was deleted because it violated WP:NPOV. The latest version is just a stub, but is free of WP:NPOV problems. And I think the case is notable because it deals with a so-called "honor killing", rather than a more routine murder. The stub should still be expanded, preferably by someone more familiar with the case than myself. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 01:07, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly it is a notable case as it has been among the most prominent murder cases in the UK in recent years, whether it is an honour killing or not (as per Wikipedia policy British English spellings should be used in the article because it relates to an incident in the UK) that is speculation and so far no one has been convicted over anything to do with the case and there is not considered to be sufficent evidence at present to charge anyone, there are arguments that maybe it doesn't merit a seperate article and that perhaps it should be as part of another article, perhaps a UK Murder related article that grouped together a number of murders maybe by time period?--Lord of the Isles 22:35, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The problem to a great extent is that it is disputed whether or not there was an arranged marriage, it is not at this moment clear with what regard 8 members of the extended family are being charged for attempting to pervert the course of justice in regard to and because that charge even though it is not a charge for the murder, it relates to the course of the investigation it is of course Sub judice.--Lord of the Isles 00:13, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the all the websites in The reference section of the page. There you will find all teh facts, and it is not disputed whether it was as a resukt of a forced marriage. The police heavily believe it was, and that she was murdered. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheDr (talkcontribs) 11:04, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure you are right. Unfortunately, we cannot let our opinions into an encyclopedia. Please read and study the links I've left on your talk page. If you need help citing sources, I can offer assistance. —<script type="text/javascript" src="http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User:Omegatron/monobook.js/addlink.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>Viriditas | Talk 14:28, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah your correct, it is just an upsetting case, but it needs to be know about. 3 years on people have not forgotten her. Around the UK. this tragic case gripped the hearts of man. One day justice will be done for her.

  • Its important that we build up an accurate account as we can, for public understanding*
Wikipedia is not intended for campaigning though, it is important to remember that, there are other forums that are suited to such. So far as I can see this case has largely been forgotten about and there appears to have been no further news in relation to it in the past 2 months, unfortunate but true - the case may well never be solved.--Lord of the Isles 21:02, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • The motivation for deleting this page seems to be one of white middle class people not being comfortable where the perpatrators are Asian. Deletion should be the nuclear option where an article is nonsense or so bad it needs to be started again. White liberals do not want to face up to this issue, they prefer to cover their eyes and allow dozens of young women to be murdered or maimed in the UK every year, and thousands of others to be consigned to forced marriages with men they have never met. Once again it is striking how the attitudes of hand wringing white liberals and Muslim fanatics are so compatible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PrivateWiddle (talkcontribs) 18:13, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edits by TheDr

[edit]

I reverted to the version by Lord of the Isles, but I think we can still use TheDr's edits. Here they are in bullet form:

  • [Shafilea Ahmed] went missing September 11th 2003. The police believe she was a victim of an alleged 'Honour killing'. After she had turned down an arranged marriage. *Poems and info cited on [1]. You can see The videos of the poems being read out on here [[2]]
  • -It was on this trip that Miss Ahmed, had an alleged suicide attepmt. She had swallowed an adequeate amount of bleach that had damaged her throat, and she needed much medical attention. Her father denied she had done it dilberatly, but was an accident when there was a power cut. [citation needed]
  • Information form British Newspaper [3]
  • It must be stressed that this is on going case.

AI enhancement

[edit]

Why is the main image enhanced with AI? The old one looked perfectly fine. 2A02:C7C:B459:F500:7098:B334:D105:A427 (talk) 12:54, 23 July 2024 (UTC)(Nota bene Blocked sockpuppet of LDas12345, see investigation)[reply]

I've restored the original press image per MOS:IMAGES, Wikipedia shouldn't be using AI-upscaled versions of historical photos where an algorithm has made guesses about how to add detail to the image. Belbury (talk) 15:46, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh good. Thanks. To be honest, that enhanced image might've looked creepy to some other readers. 2A02:C7C:B459:F500:508:1424:7486:C7AA (talk) 20:37, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

minor rewriting needed

[edit]

article should stop referring to Shafilea as "Ahmed" for ease of reading. All 3 family members are called Ahmed. Ahmed is also a male name and is mostly used as a first name. RevolutionaryPatriot (talk) 11:15, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No more image enhancement.

[edit]

I've been seeing the edit history and there had been a small on and off enhancement of Shafilea's school photo. Can we please not have anymore changes as the original photo is fine. It maybe potato quality but that incident was in the early 2000s, so it is normal. Plus she is a historic figure.

Thanks. 2A02:C7C:B459:F500:35DB:634A:E688:BEBA (talk) 21:46, 4 August 2024 (UTC)(Nota bene Blocked sockpuppet of LDas12345, see investigation)[reply]

The second version of the image wasn't an enhanced one, it was just a different crop of the same original photo taken from another source, probably a different news outlet. But User:Sirlarkspur12 uploaded that file to Commons without saying where they took it from, and stating that it was freely licenced and also their own work - which it wasn't, so Commons deleted it. Wikipedia could host a different fair use image if it wanted to. Belbury (talk) 08:05, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated year

[edit]

Belbury, why should 2003 be mentioned twice? I do not think it sounded necessary nor made sense for the repetition. 2A02:C7C:B459:F500:D0E1:C249:C260:C155 (talk) 21:15, 15 August 2024 (UTC)(Nota bene Blocked sockpuppet of LDas12345, see investigation)[reply]

Without the date it's unclear when in her life it happened. From the source's six months before her death on 11 September 2003 we can't be sure whether it happened before or after she ran away from home in February. In fact, another Guardian source says it happened in February, so it could be before. Belbury (talk) 07:55, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
