English translation of name.

[edit]

There was a fairly active discussion of the translation of the name on https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk%3AMur%C3%A1%C5%88_Plain where it is said "plains are characterized by their low altitude, rich soil, and they are generally alluvial origin" however the USA's high plains https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/High_Plains_(United_States) are higher overall than this, so my personal preference is to go with Muráň Plain. 85.237.234.57 (talk) 16:38, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If people still care about this - note that the Slovak survey office says that planina is a translation of plateau, whereas rovina translates as plain. http://www.skgeodesy.sk/files/slovensky/ugkk/geodezia-kartografia/aktuality/ZAsady.pdf The US counterexample is interesting, but those plains cover a much larger area so relative to their size they perhaps don't appear to be plateau-like relative to the surrounding terrain (never been there). I would want more examples to say that can be used. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.1.225.47 (talk) 13:41, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
