Mu QiMù Xī – Request made 26 February 2012 by user:PotatoSamurai using template:movenotice. Reason given by PotatoSamurai is "While much of the material I have lists the artist's name as Mu Qi, dictionary entries for the characters of his name say it should be 'Mù Xī'" -- PBS (talk) 21:44, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While much of the material I have lists the artist's name as Mu Qi, dictionary entries for the characters of his name say it should be "Mù Xī". Perhaps it is a variation, but I suspect "Mu Qi" may be an archaic holdover from an earlier transcription method. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PotatoSamurai (talkcontribs) 20:12, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Mu Xi, but no pinyin tones. (Mu Xi already redirects to Mu Qi anyway). Per Cornell's An-Yi Pan Painting Faith: Li Gonglin and Northern Song Buddhist Culture 2007 - Page 97 "The Yuan-dynasty art critic Xia Wenyan's Tuhui baojian, for example, criticized Muxi's (often but incorrectly: Muqi) works as “coarse, ugly and lacking of ancient methods. " ...this appears to be a double-reading character, zh.wikt 溪, even though a large character dictionary doesn't show a double reading, but given An-Yi Pan's very confident statement, even if it is, applying a possible Qi reading to Mu Xi with no source doesn't seem justified. (Pan's contraction "Muxi" is a separate issue, which no one is proposing, Muxi currently is a stub on an ancient people of Ecuador prior to 1000BCE). • Comment What about the article at Muqi Fachang ? -- 76.65.131.248 (talk) 04:17, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Either way we require a Merge Mu Qi 2008 into Muqi Fachang 2005, then if this goes ahead move Muqi Fachang to Mu Xi. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:50, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have merged the more recently created article into the older one. DrKiernan (talk) 17:44, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But with results being equal and Cornell's An-Yi Pan saying that "Qi" is a mistake, how is WP:FOREIGN relevant here? In ictu oculi (talk) 04:51, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Age?

[edit]

Admittedly the his birthdate is marked "?" , but even if this a few years off it would on no account square with "refounded the abandoned monastery Liutong Temple there in 1215." Somebody pleas look into this. --Zenwort 08:49, 12 February 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zenwort (talkcontribs)
