Merge from Mount Richardson (New Zealand, Otago)
[edit]Moved to here from Talk:Mount Richardson (New Zealand, Southland)
Mount Richardson (New Zealand, Otago) appears to be the same as this. The coordinates provided are the same and the location is clearly in Southland and not Otago. Apart from the duplication, the article is essentially unsourced and based purely on synthesis from primary sources. older ≠ wiser 14:55, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Would suggest Mount Richardson (New Zealand) as a better title.--John B123 (talk) 15:21, 22 January 2021 (UTC)- Withdrawl name change suggestion as there is also a Mount Richardson (New Zealand, Canterbury). --John B123 (talk) 15:45, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Regarding the name -- looking at Category:Mountains of New Zealand by region, where disambiguation is needed, it appears that the individual articles do not typically use "[region], New Zealand" as disambiguation. Perhaps that clarification might be needed if there were something named "Mount Richardson" in another place name "Southland" or "Otago" or "Canterbury". Compare for example Mount Franklin (Southland), Mount Franklin (Otago), and Mount Franklin (Canterbury); or Mount Edgecumbe (Southland), Mount Murchison (Canterbury), Ben Lomond (Otago), Castle Rock (Waikato), etc. older ≠ wiser 16:14, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Agree, Mount Richardson (Southland) seems enough disambiguation and is consistent with the naming conventions used on other articles. --John B123 (talk) 12:53, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

I've merged the articles; have done the same on ceb.WP so that the Wikidata items can be merged, too. The confusion stems from the fact that LINZ reports its data with regards to survey districts, and the survey district boundaries are often very different from the boundaries used by the regional councils. That is the case here; the hill is located in the Otago survey district and, as far as local government is concerned, in the Southland Region. Schwede66 11:13, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
