Suggestion for Edits

[edit]

I wish to give my opinion as someone who isn't well versed in editting but I have a few things I feel should be changed about this. For one, this OOB is quite hard to read for anyone who doesn't know much about the campaign. Why does Liddell's "Division" only contain one brigade? What units were posted where during the campaign?

Reading the Union counterpart to this page (as well as Jordan's staff ride for the campaign, link: https://www.armyupress.army.mil/Portals/7/combat-studies-institute/csi-books/operational-art-and-the-campaigns-for-mobile-bay-1864-to-1865-staff-ride-handbook.pdf), I believe that the formating of this should be changed.

For one, Liddell commanded the Eastern defenses of Mobile, divided between Fort Blakely and Spanish Fort. Meanwhile. Maury directly commanded the troops manning Mobile's Western defenses (IE Mobile itself). Divide it between those two on the structure. In addition, instead of organizing the units as "unassigned" or "Liddell's Division", organize them based on positioning. Gibson's, Holtzclaw's, and Ector's Brigades, plus Isaac Patton's 22nd Louisiana Artillery, manned Spanish Fort, while the rest of Cockrell's Division and Thomas' Reserve Brigade manned Fort Blakely. There's more detail in Jordan's Staff Ride on pages 159-162, 169, and 172 on the pdf for further details (note: the actual page numbers and the pdf's page numbers by a factor of +18 pages. I will be using the pdf page numbers for simplicity, but if you are to use citations, I would recommend scanning for the actual page numbers).

Also, like the Union equivalent, I believe we should include the listed strength figures as listed on pdf pages 160, 162, and 172, at least where the figures are available. 68.180.8.230 (talk) 18:19, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
