Happy Ending tacked on?

[edit]

Take a very close look at the last few minutes of this film. Joe seems to be very seriously hurt even before he takes the brunt of the falling wall to save the child. As he releases the kid, O'Hara's line to Jill that nobody's going to hurt Joe now occurs with Armstrong's upper body entirely out of shot. Then there's that very heavenly-looking end title "Good-bye..." from Joe. I suspect that, as is universally agreed to have been the case with the elevated train sequence in the 1933 King Kong, the office-and-home movie scene was shot, and Armstrong's line dubbed in, after the picture was initially completed--with Joe dying! Does anybody have any documentation that such was the case? Can somebody ask Ray Harryhausen? Ted Watson 20:23, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:8373.jpg

[edit]

Image:8373.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I just removed the spelling error from the name Regis Toomey (it had been "Toome") in the cast list. Don't know why it saved as I was composing my edit summary, but this is just to finish the explanation. Ted Watson (talk) 20:10, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strong man

[edit]

Wasn't Rondo Hatton one of the strong men? He isn't listed on imdb.Lestrade (talk) 01:48, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Lestrade[reply]

I used to think that myself, and assuming that the live-action part of that scene was filmed before O'Brien, Harryhausen, and company spent nearly three yerars working on the effects, it just could have been Hatton, who died February 2, 1946. However, the Swedish Angel, as Max O'Hara (Robert Armstrong) introduces him to the nightclub (and film) audience, was indeed the professional wrestling pseudonym of Phil Olafsson (his IMDb entry), like Hatton an acromegaly sufferer, and whose appearance was deformed in a very similar manner. The IMDb credits him with the (uncredited on-screen) appearance. --Ted Watson (talk) 21:34, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Olafsson is not Rondo Hatton; nor is he Tor Johnson, an actor in the Ed Wood movies and also a wrestler known as "Super Swedish Angel." WHPratt (talk) 03:01, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I notice both in the poster and in wiki panel, the actress playing Jill Young (Lora Lee Michel) is not credited.. Wonder why?

Additions/revisions

My name is Heidi Pusey and I am a paid student employee of Rachel Helps (BYU) at the Harold B. Lee Library. The library has a collection of Merian C. Cooper's papers. Because this is one of Cooper's films, I thought I'd work on improving the page. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out. COI declarations on userpage. Feedback request

[edit]

@Rachel Helps (BYU): I've completed my additions to the page. Is there anything that needs clarification/rephrasing/to be removed? Do I need to add more to the lede or is it an alright length/is anything missing from it? Heidi Pusey BYU (talk) 18:11, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The lead is fine, and the article has been much improved since the last time I checked it. Thanks for the good job. Dimadick (talk) 19:19, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not as experienced with film leads, so I will defer to Dimadick on that one. I would like a little more detail about the (post-)colonial themes in the film, and I can work on adding that. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 21:01, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
