Fair use rationale for Image:Spartans logo 2.JPG

Image:Spartans logo 2.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Notable games?

From a completely neutral editor's point of view (I live in Minnesota, we play for the Jug), it looks like your "notable games" section has turned into a recap of the last few games, whether they are notable or not. Is every game since 2006 truly "notable"? Not my place to change it, but it may merit looking at. SeanNovack (talk) 13:35, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Pre-trophy games?

• Oppose. The rivalry is focused on the trophy, and is far more likely to be known by this name. Using this name makes for a far better encyclopedia. Perhaps we need an update to WP:AT to cover this principle rather than just appealing to WP:IAR, but I think this particular move fails on the other grounds anyway. • Support in line with recent outcomes regarding college football rivalries. The proposed title is more recognizable and natural. For those of us outside the Upper Midwest, we picture every other man there as Paul Bunyan, so his namesake trophy doesn't scream out Minnesota–Minnesota State. Err, Michigan. • Support. Per BDD, the proposed title is more recognizable and natural, and it is more in line with how the subject is discussed in the sources. For example, this book on the rivalry only discusses the trophy on four pages. This book contains some good material on the rivalry, but does not mention the trophy. 2015 "Michigan State Miracle"

Other possible titles may include, but are not limited to:

• Miracle in Michigan II.

OR

• Rangers: Mission 4-10.

On October 18, 2012, this article finished with a consensus in an AFD to Merge with Michigan-Michigan State Rivalry. If Michigan State were to go on and win the Consensus College Football (FBS) Playoff Championship in 2016, this topic would more than likely be revisited (as the game itself would have had further implications at that point). IF, however, Michigan State loses to Ohio State and the Buckeyes were to win out the 2015 season advancing to the Big Ten Championship, then I will leave the article on it's current user page where it will remain indefinitely for future need/reference. Cleaning up Notable Games

As another user mentioned way back in 2011, there is a nasty spat of "recentism" with the documentation of "Notable Games." I intend to clean it up quite a bit, but obviously it will be subjective. Full disclosure, I am an MSU alumnus, so I have asked a friend of mine (who is an alumnus of U of M) to work with me so as to edit in as much a non-biased way as possible. Game results table

Something is wrong with this table because it says "Michigan leads 70-36-3" but the series is actually 69-35-5. Somehow it seems like two of the ties were mistakenly credited as victories (one for each team). Funnyhat (talk) 19:11, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
