journalism career

[edit]

i gotta say...that's an impressive list of career. and now he ends up as a ring commentary ring... i guess the money is good. sorry, i just have to comment. HoneyBee 11:52, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, that it is. My best guess is, after covering all of that, he felt he should slow down. --HBK|Talk 03:11, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
God, he is sensitive though, look at the way he handled that caller. Jman5 07:54, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Weasel words

[edit]

Somebody needs to clean up the section I tagged. It uses words like "some fans" , which are weasel words, without any source to back them up. The section also sounds like it's written by a big fan of him rather than from a NPOV. TJ Spyke 03:51, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia Inconsistency

[edit]

Considering the fact that he says WWE Raw is taped yesterday, I feel he said this on the 16 February edition of Smackdown where Raw was broadcast on the Thursday (despite being taped on Monday), this would keep the illusion that Raw hadn't been taped yet, which would explain why Cole said this. User:Rick 50000, 19:49, 23 February 2007 (UTC) He says it all the time, i'm putting it back. --Rubberchix 22:16, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the Oct 8th, 2010 episode of Smackdown(which doesn't need him as a third wheel), he snottily responded to Matt Striker talking about ECW by claiming it had been of the air for "over a year & a half". In fact, ECW aired its final episode on February 16, 2010, 8 months before this comment. He is such an ass. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.211.71.137 (talk) 01:34, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The (self-proclaimed) Voice of WWE

[edit]

The GM called Cole the voice of the WWE when Josh Mathews intoduced him to make his interview with the king he called him the Voice of the WWE its not self proclamed if other people say it so I think the self proclamed needs to be removed ♥Fighting for charming Love♥ (talk) 01:21, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember him calling himself the Voce of wwe. He calls himself the Voice of the wwe all the time though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.176.244.160 (talk) 01:37, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Chimmal said "let me introduce the voice of the WWE Good old JR" but it was Cole in a costume taking the piss. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.222.227.22 (talk) 19:08, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dead pic

[edit]

Can someone remove a dead pic from this article? Thanx! 72.70.204.84 (talk) 13:09, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

HIS NICK-NAME IS SIR MICHAEL COLE

[edit]

Why is it down as "Sir Cole" when it should be "Sir Michael Cole"? FIX IT NOW NVH! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.45.77.24 (talk) 17:13, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WWF/WWE on screen debut

[edit]

The article says "Coulthard first appeared on screen at SummerSlam, and replaced Todd Pettengill as a backstage interviewer, who left the WWF after the event." - I just watched old WWF Raw is War shows and the first on screen appearance was at least before SummerSlam 1997. He was a backstage interviewer on the Raw is War. (30 June 1997) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.23.172.3 (talk) 20:20, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdate

[edit]

Judging by Cole's twitter comments, his birthday is not December 8, 1968. A decent source is needed to verify the date. Gobōnobō + c 11:26, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apparent Errors

[edit]

Please note the following:

1. In the portion where references are made to Cole's minor storylines with Superstars, there is a reference to a Rachel Starr (in hyperlink). The hyperlink for this name does not go to any personality page but shows that no such page exists.

2. Soon after the above, there is a reference to Shawn Michaels. There is no link here, but the name is written as Shawn Fuckhead Michaels.

Maybe somebody has been a nuisance in editing the article. Please take care of this.

Kind regards

Deletion of material in lead

[edit]

RealDealBillMcNeal, please see WP:LEADCITE. Leads don't need sourcing unless they contain particular controversial information. The information in the lead is common knowledge of Cole's gimmick if you are a wrestling fan.AmericanDad86 (talk) 23:05, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But that's it. "If you are a wrestling fan". Remember, this isn't a wrestling encyclopaedia. While you and I may know what Michael Cole is like, you can't just write anything you want because something is allegedly common knowledge. You have to write for a wider audience.
Per WP:NOR, there is no original research on Wikipedia. The sole source used for the gimmick content is an unreliable source (WP:RS) that has the exact same text as in the article. So, in good faith, either you've lifted the content word for word from the source, which is a violation of Wikipedia rules according to WP:C-P, or you've unintentinally violated WP:NOR and the content on the source has been taken directly from Wikipedia.
WP:MOSINTRO says that "The lead section should briefly summarize the most important points covered in an article in such a way that it can stand on its own as a concise version of the article." Is the gimmick of a pro-wrestling commentator worthy of being a part of the intro in the first place? Probably not, especially considering a lot of wrestlers don't even have a mention of their wrestling gimmick in the lead. So, per WP:OSE, precedent matters and the gimmick stuff should be merged with sections of the main body of content that already discuss aspects of his character, and probably rewritten to get rid of words like "catty" and "locutions", as per WP:UPE.RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 12:36, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've reverted back to your version, RealDealBillMcNeal. Because of WP:MOSINTRO, I believe that the current summary reads best. Going on and on about which catchphrases he used during a year-long heel run (in the span of a 15+ year career) is pretty irrelevant in my opinion. Definitely mentionable in the body, but not the lead.LM2000 (talk) 05:08, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have anything else to add to this conversation AD86? Because reverting while telling others to discuss while you do not certainly isn't compliant with policy.LM2000 (talk) 15:44, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Birth

[edit]

Aparently 12/8/1966 is not his birthday and the citation used to say it is doesn't provide for Birth date. 2601:14D:4F82:5EA0:A46B:A703:9D00:F9B3 (talk) 19:51, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

His age indicates a 1966 year at the very least. DrewieStewie (talk) 19:44, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Legacy

[edit]

I think with Vince McMahon's retirement and Michael Cole's subsequent reassessment as a commentator some additional and more recent quotes should be added to the legacy section since he is so much better regarded now than he was a few years ago.
