Merritt Island SPOT photo image

[edit]

The photograph that claims to be of Merritt Island, used in the article on this page, is NOT of Merritt Island. Seems incredible, what in this photo represents the island? The large inlet there in the photograph appears to be either Sebastian Inlet, or is further north of Merritt Island. Where is the Banana River? Where is the Mosquito Lagoon? Where is the Indian River? Perhaps there is part of the island in this photo, but I do not think it is representative of the MI that I know. Please confirm or comment before I make a major edit. LOX production?

[edit]

A recent letter to the editor claimed that Air Products & Chemicals had a LOX producing plant on "South Merritt Island." They sell this to KSC. But I can find no reference to the plant itself being on MI. Anybody help? Student7 (talk) 22:29, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am a Merritt Island Resident. I would note that there is a factory labeled "Air Liquide" just south of where State Road 3 enters the Kennedy Space Center. WHPratt (talk) 03:06, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When I drive by there, some pipe is always dispersing visible gas, so it's unlikely the plant is abandoned. WHPratt (talk) 04:29, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I added your citation. It is better than nothing, but not the best. What we would like is an article about their existence, not just a mere business listing which could be placed by anybody, even on a non-existent plant. (I'm sure you are reporting the truth, but we need to make our encyclopedia credible to others, as well). Thanks. Student7 (talk) 14:09, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have no personal interest in the matter. Maybe you should write or call them! WHPratt (talk) 20:45, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Saw trucks loading there a couple weeks ago, so they're still active! WHPratt (talk) 04:53, 26 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Schools

[edit]

Thomas Jefferson Middle School was formerly Thomas Jefferson Junior High School. The sign in front of the place was rendered
THOMAS JEFFERSON JR.
HIGH SCHOOL
... which puzzled me the first time I saw it. I wondered just who Thomas Jefferson Jr. might be, and why they named a high school after him, instead of, say, Sammy Davis Jr. or William F. Buckley Jr. As we all know, the Third President didn't have any sons, at least none that he admitted to. I eventually figured it out. WHPratt (talk) 03:17, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Irma sand bagging dispensing operation

[edit]

A wait of over 5 hours to receive 8 sandbags for protection from hurricane Irma was underway Sept 8 2017. Hurricane preparedness section or mention might should be a part of the article so as to demonstrate the degree of emergency preparedness that the local governmental officials were providing for the citizens. Prison labor was filling bags with a shovel as a line of automobiles waited for their allotment. CNN aired a segment on Sept 8 2017.--Wikipietime (talk) 13:40, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
